Hi all I am Peter Perren, joined the club in January and have proudly warn club colours on a few occasions recently including the Duchy Marathon. I plan to build up enough staminar to run 12 marathons in one year. Hopefully next year I will begin preparing for this. My incentive for this is to raise money for a cancer unit that is treating a friend of mine who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I have found a new lease of enthusiasm for running and am always happy to be pounding the streets. I hope to see and talk to many of you as we clock up the miles on the many organized runs together. So for now keep safe and healthy.

Hi Peter,
congratulations on recently completing the Dutchy marathon and for a great start to the year.
Well done also for introducing THREE new members to the club which will earn you £10 discount on your next renewal of membership - fantastic support for the club ....... and great to hear of you proubly sporting the club colours.
I managed 5 marathons in 6 months last year .... and that was tough (perhaps I'm paying for it now !) - so good luck with your challenge - and best wishes when you commence your fundraising for such a worthy cause.
I hope to see you at an event this year to be able to put a face to the name.
Best wishes,
Alan Lacey Chairman UKnetrunner |

Hi to all, not a new member any more but wanted to say a few words. It was an action packed 2007 for me. Started the year by running a marathon then had a brain wave and decided to run 7 marathons in 7 months. This turned into 7 in 5 months. Having got to 5 marathons completed I was diagnosed with the meningacocchal virus ( a form of meningitus. My doctor told me to rest and forget about running.
My little brain decided it knew best ( I was running in memory of my friend who had just died of cancer). I completed the last two marathons 7 days apart, thats when it hit me. I was laid up for months not able to run and sometimes finding difficulty to walk. After a long rehabilitation I have just started running again, but have just had another set back when the virus has robbed me of some of my sight. How bad only tests and time will tell.
This email does have a point. Firstly thankyou for your support and being able to talk to like minded people. Secondly to opologise to those in the club I may have written things I shouldn't have to. (they know who they are), and last stay safe in your running and listen to your body, I wish I had. Thanks for reading this. Peter |

Keep in touch with us Peter and let us know how it goes. I really hope you recover and your sight comes back, and that you can learn to manage the virus and it's effects on you.
All the best!

Hi Peter...good to see you being vocal and I hope you are soon well on that road of recovery. I think running makes us stronger anyway and more able to cope with recovery.
Running in memory of a close friend gives a special kind of commitment and I am sure your friend would have been extemely proud of you. I always look for the sunshine when I'm running, I imagine that it is my sister in law out watching over me. It also makes me remember how lucky I am to be able to run and enjoy life.
Just take it easy and only do what you feel able to do.

Peter - I really feel for you mate and wish you the VERY best, keep focused and do what you can. although not the same as your condition, i was struck down twice with spinal paralysis, I now run as much as i can when i can as being unable to walk at the time was just awful, so losing some sight is 100% worse, I'm not fast but i am active, which is something I treasure. good luck in the future and REMEMBER IF you need to sound off WE are here for you mate ALL EARS never bottle it always let it go :) |

Hi all, wow, thanks for your words of support. I appreciate all of you taking the time to reply. I have been taking my time and have just completed my first 5 mile road race since the problem.
This might sound melodramitic but I have been running for over twenty years now and in periods where I can't run I get very moody. So even with all the problems I am better off out doing my runs.
This year I intend to take my time on runs and then start to build speed into the runs next year. Last year with all the problems I thought I would never be able to run again. Glad to say I'm back, not as strong but hey at least I'm back. Thanks again to everyone. Peter |

Well done in achieving your goal Peter but do try to take it easy and settle for just enjoying what you can do for now. I wish you the very best of luck and look forward to reading about your progress.
May the wind be always on your back. |
