REMINDER:
All races from 1st May 2005 will count towards the UKnetrunner Grand Prix series.
If you haven't notified me of youe best 10k time for 2004, or if you didn't run one in 2004 your best of 2005 to date, please do so as soon as possible so that you can be enterred into the competition.
Don't forget - you have to be a fully paid member throughout the competition to take part.
One bit of clarification: if you don't run a race at a paticular distance (eg no 5k or no 5 mile race) then you will get ZERO points for that part of your Grand Prix score - so although you don't HAVE TO run races at ALL distances in the Grand Prix, you will limit your overall points possibility by not running the full range of distances.
Hopefully that makes it a bit clearer - it should become clearer as the competition progresses !
Good luck UKnetrunners - Game on !

Do we get some info as to our grade, so we know what times to aim for this year? And will a ongoing league table be available on the website so we can monitor our, and other people's progress?
Found the answers to my questions, just need to learn to read better.
quote: Mark Sutton (Sutts) will be compiling the data and producing updates on a regular basis which will be shown on the club website.
We will publish the finalised performance bands on this site when the Grand Prix Series commences so that competitors can see what they need to achieve to score more points.

Richard, we will get the grading and scoring info published as soon as possible on the website (bear with us on this one as Bank Holidays, Racing, family life and Websites don't go together too well !)
Yes we will publish and update the results / scores on the website - again please bear with us.
Thanks

Stupid Question time......
I am planning to run an 8k here in Cardiff - does that count as a 5 miler? (Cos it sort of is???!). Will have to find a 5 mile otherwise!!!

Michelle,
I'm afraid just like the 4 miler I did the other night, 8k is not really a distance we can use for the Grand Prix - it will have to be an official 5 miler to qualify for your 5 mile race I'm afraid - good incentive to get a few more races in though !
Just to update people - I have been in touch with Sutts who has worked out the gradings for those people who have submitted times and is starting to compile the results.
If you run any races that qualify, or wish to be graded and enter the grand prix please forward your details to uknetrunner@aol.com
I'm looking forward to finding out my points - as I have made a good start to the grand prix at the shorter distances - come on folks - we've had a great response to the Grand Prix Series - but you've got to be in it to win it !

A quick question for the panel.
I normally start a race towards the rear of the pack, so as to avoid hindering the faster runners at the front. Thus my personally clocked time is always quite a lot faster that the official time (due to the time taken to cross the line), unless the race uses champion chips. E.g. my personal time for a fairly small 10k I did last week was 24 secs faster than the official time.
I know the GP rules say that times must be verifiable which implies that only official times will be permissible. Can some thought be given towards next years' competition to find a way of using our actual times rather than official times (and without the need for only using chipped races)? As a suggestion, if a members' submitted personal time is within a reasonable margin of the verifiable official time, maybe that can be considered valid?
After all, ths is just for fun, and I can't imagine anyone is likely to submit a false time. On the other hand, if it is just for fun, what am I worrying about it for?
Anyway, what do others think?

Good point Steve, but i was under the impression that a PB could only be an official time, not sure though!

I am in the ssame position as Steve. Unless the race as a very small field I will always start from the back as I just don't do crowds. One reason why I will never do a big race like the London Marathon. I take that into account for my own records and use my own time for each race, but I am happy for the official time to be used for the GP, club records etc as it is my choice to start from the back.

Good point guys .....
However - we need to be a little firm on this one and stick to the official times - others would no doubt argue that you would be better to start further up the pack, or choose lower key races with a slower field - it is an issue which could run and run (!!!)
To avoid any debate we need to stick to hte official times - after all both your grading (handicap) and points will be based on the official times so that should make up for the differences.

UPDATE: Due to minor technicalities the GP data is unable to be displayed on the website at present.
We have had just a few submissions for the GP series so far, and they have been scored accordingly - keep the race times coming in and we'll feature full GP Series updates on the site shortly.
Thanks

Are we any nearer seeing this on the website, would be good to see how everyone is doing!
Dips x Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" |

Dips, are you pushing to have a 30+ mile category in next year's GP?
