Dips sent this round by email earlier today..

The Tempest 10 & Spitfire 20 Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey
(where they film Top Gear!)

Sunday 14th March 2010.
It's not every day you get to gamble round Gambon and hammer round
Hammerhead as part of your marathon training. So, Events To Live Ltd (a
Joint Venture between Run to Live and Sport Systems Ltd) are delighted to
announce two new Road Races to be held on Sunday 14th March 2010.

Introducing the Surrey Spitfire 20. This fantastic new two lap event in the
beautiful Surrey countryside offers a fast, flat accurately measured 20
mile road race. Perfect for pre-London Marathon or pre-Brighton Marathon
training. Starting from the famous Dunsfold Aerodrome, the two lap route
follows country lanes through Dunsfold village and surrounding areas,
finishing back at Dunsfold Aerodrome. The route is flat and fast, offering
the perfect opportunity to practice your marathon race strategy and get
that most important 20 mile training run in your legs.

For those who fancy something a little bit shorter, the Surrey Tempest 10
could be the perfect option. Following the same route as the Spitfire you
get all the best bits without the second lap.

Both races will feature all of the quality you have come to expect...chip
timing, goodie bags, race mementos, water and energy stations and a
fantastic venue. Dunsfold Aerodrome has a distinguished history.
Established with the onset of WWII it is credited as the site of the
development of the Harrier, Hawk and Hunter aircraft. As you may have
gathered, it is now probably best known as the home of BBC One's Top Gear.

In support of Help for Heroes.

I've pencilled in the 20 miler - perfect timing leading up to a spring marathon

Yes I saw this Matt. It's certainly worth considering, but it could be a bit blowy in an aerodrome, I'd have thought.

I am also considering the Wymondham 20 in Norfolk around the same time.

I've run around that airfield before - it was a nice day last time but even so was still windy in places. it'll probably be 25 degrees if I'm running though

Hopefully it would be an exception for you Matt At least it's March, so shouldn't be too hot in theory.

I must admit I don't like airfield based races, but I'm still revisiting the Shakespeare Raceway 10k at Long Marston Airfield, Stratford, but only because I'm running out of options to go sub 40 this year.

Undecided about Silverstone for similar reasons, although a great event. It's a toss up between Silverstone, Bath and Reading as far as half's go.

I know what you mean Ian.. when I first read about this race I thought "20 miles round an airfield? nooooooooo".. but when I saw that it goes out of the airfield through villages etc. I decided it might be ok. There are very few road-based 20 mile races around, and one so close to home at the perfect time of year was too good too pass up.
