Hi all, Worksop Half Marathon was the hardest half i have ever run, Got to worksop at around 9:30 am, got my number 1161 and chip.. Got to the start at 10:25 ready for a 10:30 start.
Bang and we were off, i had been told that the first few miles were up and down so tried to take it steady, 9:20 / 8:42 / 8:25 / 8:53, throw 5 miles feeling well, had to have a loo break again around 6 miles, got to half way in 1:02 , so did not feel to bad but it was getting hotter and windier but not a nice cool wind a warm one .
9:25 / 9:49 / 9:18 / 10:02, starting to feel very heavy legged, and needed water...go to 11 miles and a water stop had 2 cups of water and a short rest..10:21 now should be all down hill to the finish, next mile 10:11 finding it very hard now, feel unwell and starting to worry abit myself if i will make it to the end.
12 mile maker comes and goes very slowly, feeling crap now legs heavy and head spinning, 9:30 last mile down hill (very hard work), last bit to the finish,0:50 and across the line, i have never thought i would feel this bad after a race.
Got my t-shirt and back to my car, head home at to have the window open all the way to get some air in...Got home and had to go to bed , felt crap, sleeped for 3 hrs and still not right now so do know..
Hope to feel better later, do no what happened but it was scary..
Garmin time 2:03:11 9:24 per mi... total ascent 2228 ft..
Chip time should be about 2:04 ish, just happy to finish...
Deano.... Always enjoy your running.

Deano
Sorry to hear you suffered so much during the race, so you obviously did very well to finish.
Sounds like you caught one of those mysterious bugs (like the one that affected Pete) Pete also felt dire and very sleepy. Take a good rest and get some anti oxidants down your neck mate. Plenty of healthy fruit, veg etc and a few early nights.
Ease back on/stop the training until you feel Ok again or else you'll undermine your immune system.

Sorry to hear about your race Deano!
I wouldnt rate Worksop as hard as the Humber Bridge event - so you must have been suffering from a bug as Ian said.
Hopefully you will be well soon!

Sorry you had such a bad time Deano. I was also there today and it was very tough. Glad you managed to finish.
The conditions were sunny but the wind was very gusty. I last ran this event a few years ago and I had quite forgotten how hilly it was. I was on a high after the GER 2 weeks ago, but this one brought me back down to earth with a bump. I knew I would be slower because I have only managed 3 short training runs since then due to work.
Although the course is hilly, the setting in Clumber Park is glorious at this time of year and it is a real pleasure to run this event when the sun is shining. The wind wasn't a major factor during the first half of the course, but it certainly was a major hindrance in the second half. It's hard enough on some of those hills but when you are also running against the wind as well it gets very tough. I finished in 1:49:41 which was a bit disappointing, but despite the lack of training I did feel quite strong at the end. I would recommend this event to anyone looking for a challenging run and I plan to be there again next year.

Deano! Gotta be a bug mate but im guessing its not much consolation. However, damned well done for finishing, it gets to a point where its not about time...... its about survival. Well done, just think, the next one will be so much better. Dont worry.

Deano - well done on getting round and getting home ok too, I felt like that after Hull 20 and its not a nice feeling, I was lucky I had Jen able to drive me home, you where solo on way home which must have been a bit of a mare, I'm sure this event will stand you well for future events though, hope your on the mend now
Colin - well done on a great time considering your prep before hand, lots of runners dream of sub 2hrs for a half and you where well under that target good on ya
