Work and stuff has been fairly time consuming for the last couple of weeks so running has slipped ... wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't been struggling this year but under the circumstances I just decided to have fun, take it easy and if I could to finish around the 2 hr mark.
Perfect prep - thanks to my sisters hospitality - and a good warm up too. Met Colin in the loo queue - he was ahead of me and stayed that way all day. Met Deano and Dom for a short chat in the start queue before Claire dragged me further forward only to meet Colin again for a longer chat. On the subject of being dragged forward by a skinny waif when one is a little more substantial .... I can confirm that it doesn't win you any friends.
After being told that next years race will be 10/10/10 starting at 10:10 the wheelchairs set off soon followed by us less disabled runners. What can I say about P'boro - I was born there, I lived there 18 years and I honestly try to avoid it as much as family will allow. The route is truely reflective of Peterborough - flat dull and little changed.
Anyway the run split ave max heart rate 8:42 140 155 8:58 153 158 HR too high already! 8:49 156 163 9:46.5 153 161 walked through water and stopped for the loo 8:30 156 163 9:47 157 164 walked through water and met Mark 9:10 162 166 caught Mark up again 9:14.5 161 164 started sing Jerusalem 9:12 165 170 stopped singing as knackered 9:26 165 168 feeling really tired 9:40 165 167 feeling worse but started to calc possible finish 9:12 166 169 sped up cause I was thinking about time 9:29 173 178 cracked on, suprised this was so slow HR shows effort 37 secs 181 190 massive sprint to beat 2 on the clock which I just missed.
1:59:29 on watch 30 by chip, happy with that.
Here's an interesting thing - 2 years ago I had pushed several times to get a Max HR 189 - so I've set a new PBHR
Met the boys in the pen after for a very short chat as we needed to get stuff done - my biggest regret from the day was that we didn't get together as a club for a bit of a social.
I hate to say this but I enjoyed my return to Peterborough and think I will do it again - my sister has confirmed her house is available for a larger party next years ..... so book early
Fat again :-(

LOL! Jerusalem!
Next year you will beat me hands down of that I have no doubt[:) I think it was a fab time given the injury etc.Well done.
And yes we must have a post race club get together....it felt a little flat and I had no chance to reprimand Mr W for his tardiness!
It may be flat and dull but the sons of the City are neither.... I had a fab time with you and your family....and yes fellow clubbies book early the accommodation is first class. |

Mike i get the impression that every time youve got going this year you ended up with a ****ty set back..... but yet youve stuck at it when lots of other folk would have thrown the towel in. Well done for GER and hit it hard next year. Well done mate.

Great to see you and well done on your run. How did you manage to get such a high heart rate? Mine would have exploded by then.
Like the idea of a party at your sisters house. I've never run a half marathon with a hangover before.

Hey, good running Mike, especially considering less-than-ideal prep. Glad you decided to stop singing when you were knackered, rather than stop running and carry on singing!

Funny report Mike.. when you started mentioning that you were born there etc. I thought you were going to start gushing about your home town and all that.. and then you slagged it off
Well done Mike - I have a feeling you'll be back much stronger, faster and wiser next year. |

Blimey Mike, great report there and glad that it was a good return for you. Good luck in getting fully fit again and getting back into NTRIX handicap winning form again! |

Well done Mike...nice to see you back in the land of run...it further convinces me there is life after injury. Just take it easy and most of all enjoy being out on the plod again.

Well done Mike! Good running!
It's good to see you getting back towards where you want to be. I hope that your achilles is OK too and that training continues to yield dividends.

excellent report Mike and great run good on ya
I've gotta admit the scenery aint much BUT I feel its what a city marathon is all about, taking in all areas no matter what, the locals where also VERY supportive considering the roads where closed even to them, I'm not a local BUT if it was my city I'd be quite proud of this Half Mara and what they pulled off, I'm sure you are really
I dont need to stop over next year BUT a party or meet up AFTER sounds great, maybe we should start planning NOW
