Tempted to enter this 10k in Telford, as I know it's very likely to be flat as described, as I'm currently working on a project there and know the area.

It is in fact 2 races. A sub 40 elite and another for runners over 40 mins.

My thinking is if I enter the elite sub 40, then I'll be compelled to finally deliver the goods

Will check diary.

or, you could enter the over 40 and perhaps win it?

Anyway, wouldn't you have to supply evidence of running sub-40 to enter that one?

Nice thought Matt, but hardly likely Even that race will have a generous helping of very good runners I'm sure.

Nothing like a bit of pressure though eh to shave off those valuable seconds. Could just do it and I'm running out of options before year end - and I still haven't achieved my 10k goal

Well if I'm not in Norwich for Christmas by that time, I'll likely give it a blast.

Must admit, event name is a bit of a misnomer really, as elite would probably be sub 32 or similar I guess.

I did telford last year Ian, tho it was just one race then. It is flat.......ish, nothing nasty but race is over 2 or 3 laps i think. Under foot if its been raining it could be a bit slippy as its in a park but fast times are do-able (not by me tho last year ha ha). Was busy at start and a little crowded and you do share the same path with the runners coming the opposite way at times which made it a little tight, im guessing why theyve split it in to two races. If its same route there were a couple of sharp turns inc one at the bottom of a small desent. I reckon youll do well here as youll be near the front if you do the second race.

Thanks for info Dave. I do know the park, but have never run in it. I guess the weather could well be a key issue though if it makes it slippy as it's all tarmac paths. Must admit I'm not too keen on multiple laps thoughs.

Hopefully the congestion you mention has been addressed by having the two events as you say. I'll give it a go if I'm not away.

Cheers!

elite I would be tempted to say sub 31, but my opinion of "good" changes whenever I get a new PB. I used to think sub 2:45 marathon was "elite" but now adjust my view on that to 2:20. I've been called elite at some races and just find it embarrassing really. I'm also well aware that others may consider something like sub-3 marathon elite. It all depends on what standard you're running at.

A sub-40 10k is a nice group to be part of though. Reckon you'd improve more if you raced less next year though Ian. But if you enjkoy racing often, then keep doing it.

Yes Stephen I agree, I think the term 'Elite' is relative really.

Ref the racing less, it is something I'm considering next year. I may though reduce some race distances, but increase 5k's. I believe they are short enough and of good quality to be doing almost every week where possible. I do enjoy the racing though, so it will be difficult to reduce.

I have read articles of some top runners and they do tend to focus on fewer races to achieve their goals. I guess I just want to get as much out of it before I start to slow down I still believe I've got a fair bit of potential in me despite my age though, so I envisage improving for a good few years yet, all being well

I'd agree Ian, plenty of room for improvement, regardless of age.

I raced too often early this year and rarely ran well. Last year I ran best when I raced less often. The past few months I've not raced much and am feeling much better in training (but we'll see how the races go this month). I don't think any of this is coincidence.

No I don't believe it's coincidence either Stephen. Stroud should be interesting and not wishing to tempt fate it could prove a terrific race for you. I hope it all goes to plan.

When I said I'd consider reducing some distances/races, I initially thought that I should possibly reduce half marathons and/or 10k's. My dilemma is that when I look at my results and WAVA, I'm making progress in all areas thankfully, so I'm reluctant to drop any and I don't really have a favourite. I just love racing all distances

I believed that middle distance was becoming my strength, but I'm not so sure now as I have neglected my 5k's due to H/M & Marathon training, so I can't realistcially gauge.

Anyway, here's to progress!

last couple of years I have held back form entering Telford in case there was a family Christmas commitment clash - then close to the day I found it full. This year I'll try to decide earlier.

(Ive got a 5M for tomorrow & the Birmingham Uni 5k next Sunday).

Yes it is tad close to Christmas Mike and for that reason I'll decide late too.

Good luck in your 5m tomorrow & Birmingham Uni 5k next week. I quite fancied the latter, but I'm at Abingdon next week.

Have a good race!

Ive just spotted the Stockport 10 the week before, so quite fancy that as my last race of the year.

I will be in Shropshire that weekend but as it is my son's 18th birthday will have to give this one a miss.

To be honest I wouldn't enter a multi lap race where the course is just 2m wide in some places and has people running in both directions - it's asking for trouble.

As for racing - if I was so inclined and injury hadn't kept regular racing off the agenda I would favour clusters of races with good gaps between them.

Fat again but not for long :-)

Hmmm??? Progressively going off the idea of this one, so hopefully I'll find an alternative.

I don't really fancy doing the Shakespeare Raceway 10k again, as its an airfield and was windy (as expected)earlier in the year. However, if I don't find alternatives to either, I'll hit the Skakespeare Raceway again and hope for success at sub 40. I could then drop Telford if successful.
