Bren & I met up with Claire and Mike at the start area (they were doing some strange warm up stretches .... what's all that about?!?! They almost looked serious!)
Anyway .... off in nice weather conditions (no rain for the duration of the race and a good temperature to run in)
Mike went off well - although I saw him ahead of me keep clutching his "glutes" so knew he was struggling a little .... after the first mile (in just over 7 minutes) I could see "the hill" approaching and knew Claire wouldn't be far behind me - Mike still going well ahead of me.
Then - for me - disaster!!!! My foot fitted nicely into a pot-hole in the tarmac which was nicely hidden under a pile of large leaves - TWIST and in Dancing on Ice Style I eventually went down like a sack of spuds after slipping on the mud by the side of the road in my attempts to stop and hit the ground safely.
Claire (thanks Claire) stopped to see if I was ok .... and I wasn't! I feared something bad and was stuck on the floor to get over the shock and sudden pain. As Bren approached I told Claire to carry on.... I persuaded Bren that I'd be ok to get myself back to the start area and she carried on - with me hobbling back to the start to cheer the guys down the hill and later in to the finish.
That is the FIRST race I did not finish .... and I didn't like the experience.
After the compusory bacon roll and Latte it was a case of painful steady walk home .... and a long soak in the bath.
Rest of the day .... little activity - foot up in front of the xbox! And a still painful foot - no breaks (I don't think so anyway!) - but a painful foot/ankle area which I hope improves rapidly over the coming days!
I'll let the others post their results (3 great finishes) - well done UKnetrunners ... can we beat 4 at Heaton Parkrun???
Good to see you again Mike & Claire (hope all went well with Claire's dad Mike!)

Alan - good to see the pair of you and thanks sooooo very much for being at the junction just after 4km - I was desperate to stop but couldn't do it with you there.
And I survived (even enjoyed) meeting the Da ..... and meeting the God Mother later was a laugh!
