Hi...
Having had a very good weekend supporting the UKnetrunner team at the RNR, I have decided to join up (despite telling Alan I would never be part of a running club)! Although I was glad to be a supporter I was itching to take part too.
So here's my running history so far... Took up running in 2002 following advice from my karate instructor. I was training for my black belt and had a serious lack of stamina. I quite enjoyed it so for a few years I ran about three times a week, although not always that regular and only for about 20-30 mins at a time. My race history is mainly the Manchester 10k (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009). Since meeting Alan, I've also completed the Birchwood 10k (2009) and the nightmare Cuerden 10k (I was not warned how hilly that would be and how it would be exclusively club runners).
At present, my training is erratic, I tend to do a few runs before an organised 10k. Running with Alan means I have to run at least 5 miles and that takes me just over 50 minutes. It's very disheartening when you get overtaken by little old women with zimmer frames!!
My action plan is: 10k Southport Natterjack Seaside 10k (October) 12k Not the Roman IX Stratford (January)
and if all goes well
Wilmslow Half Marathon (March) YIKES!!!
I'm hoping an online diary will encourage me to run more often and help me track my progress. Any advice and nagging along the way will be much appreciated.
PS Already, thankyou to Wendi and Steve Allenby for their running advice so far...

Thanks David, Yep, think I'll be training alone, don't want Alan dragging me down to his level!! |

Welcome aboard Brenda.
You may be training alone, but I get the impression that when it comes to a race, you'll have Alan firmly in your sights!
See you at NTRIX |

Hi Bren. Sorry I didn't really get to meet you at RNR, but I appreciated your support! Anyway, very glad that you've joined the club, and looking forward to seeing you at some other event soon.

Welcome to the club Brenda!
As was the case for some other members, Gill and I didn't really get to meet you properly at the weekend.
Good luck with training and hope to see you at some events soon.
Ian

Thanks again all for making me so welcome and no longer alone in my running...
Hi Bill, I wouldn't say Alan wore me down... it was actually being at the RNR last weekend that did it. Everyone is so supportive of each other and I realised running doesn't have to be a solitary experience. Already I've had some great advice that has helped immensely.
See you at Southport sporting my club vest for the first time... |
