Hi Stephen,

I did leave a response on here earlier and it seems to have vanished...

Anyway,

- Not sure if I will be able to run - I'm currently gradually recovering from the bad ankle injury last Saturday - I'll know for sure this coming weekend. It is improving but I'm not sure if I'll be able to run on it - if I can (comfortably) I will.

- After thinking more about the event, Bren would prefer not to be included - after looking at the potential standard of runners she feels uncomfortable at the prospect - so Bren will unfortunately not be running.

I know Bill was interested in running 2 stages if that helps?

Sorry for the hassle - out of my control I'm afraid.

This is turning into a bit of a kerfuffle.

We now have 7 runners so three runners to double-up. Looking back through the thread, 4 people have indicated a willingness to run twice: myself, Dom, Pete, Bill.

We also need two runners who will only run one stage to cover stages 5 & 6

Logistically, it's also useful to keep the Stockdales on similar stages and for those doubling up to do the same stage.

Based on the above, I'd like to propose the amended stage list:

Stage Dist Runner
1 3.81 Bill
2 2.5 Zo
3 5.47 Stephen
4 2.46 Dom
5 3.54 Deano
6 3.54 David
7 2.46 Dom
8 5.47 Pete
9 2.5 Stephen
10 3.81 Bill

Would appreciate thoughts and if anyone has any better suggestions I'm happy to hear them.

Dom, I know you've been injured. Are you still okay to do this or should I shift things around a bit more? If needs be, I'm sure either Deano/David will double up and you can take either stage 5 or 6.

Not run since Great Eastern, but ankle/foot was fine for that, just a bit stiff when not running, actually fine when racing, just giving myself some sensible time off running! Don't normally do that. Resting up until Sunday and will then run again. So leave me in for 2 and I will give it a good test this weekend and will let you know.

However if someone really wants to do two stages, and there are a few quicker than me doing this happy to step aside and just do one leg.

Keep me posted. Any details on the race logistics as of yet?

I am up in Matlock at the weekend (Matlock Bath Illinations Firework display), so may go for a bit of a scouting look round the course on Sunday.

Hi Stephen

It's certainly a kerfuffle. I'll have a go at anything that you feel is necessary. However, I will be the slowest runner in the squad so you may want to consider swapping me with Lincs. Also, I think Colin expressed an interest in taking part. Has he changed his mind?

Anyway, whatever you need.

I'm happy to run stage 2, no problem. Sorry I have been a bit quiet on this, work has been manic recently. I'm still very keen to be a part of this.

Sorry to hear that so many people are struggling with health and injuries at the moment. Hope you all get better soon.

Looking at it we may struggle to have people who are doubling up starting and finishing in the same place otherwise we'll end with people almost doing back to back stages. How will we be fixed for moving people between stages?

With 6 runners the only option we have is for 2 people to run stages 5 & 6.

The other 4 people have to double up and I would suggest each person runs the opposite leg, i.e.

Stage 1 & 10
Stage 2 & 9
Stage 3 & 8
Stage 4 & 7
Stage 5
Stage 6

At worst, this gives the runner of stages 4 & 7 a rest of approx 40 minutes (based on the time the quickest runner is likely to complete stages 5 & 6)?

That would work and as 4&7 are the shorter legs it shouldn't be too hard. Although it does mean someone gets both of the 5.47 stages.

Another option is that two people could switch to give the stage 4 runner a longer rest, and share the 5.47s. eg:

Stage 1 & 10
Stage 2 & 9
Stage 3 & 7
Stage 4 & 8
Stage 5
Stage 6

Though that would mean them driving/being driven between the stages - although I'm happy to do that.

Is the plan now for the double-stage people to be me, Pricey, Lincs and Bill, with Dom and Zo doing the single legs?

I was hoping not to have to write this but I've just returned from seeing a sports physio and it's not good news.

I strained a calf last Sunday but thought two or three days rest would fix it ( I like to brag that I never get injured ). Anyway the physio has told me not to run for three weeks. I honestly believe that I'll be able to start again in a couple of days and I will be able to make it to the relay event. I'll still go for two stages if absolutely necessary but if the calf goes again on the first we will be knackered.

We could do with some help from fellow netrunners. Doesn't anyone out there fancy a blow out a week on Sunday?

Sorry for yet another negative post.

Sorry to hear about your injury Bill (and everyone elses woes), there seems to be a Uknet curse at the moment!

I'll send an email around in the morning to see if we can rustle up a last minuter or two.

Hi,

I am happy to double up in addition to others, probably best though that if I do that I double up on the slightly shorter stages.
