I think it is a great idea to become more involved and I would be happy to offer my help wherever it might be needed.

Would probably be easier to man one of the earlier stages because our resources might get a bit stretched later into the event with all stages after 5 requiring runner support.

LB - Some valid points there - but is manning a checkpoint really that complicated?

Dips - Is it any more involved than identifiying the teams & logging their times when they go through?

On the 2/3 changeover it is simply a case of 2 people being there so for time keeping and a checker I am guessing. IVA suggested we did it in shifts..but we only need 2 at a time.

No car park to man.

What I will say is if we are going ahead with this I need firm commitment. Its no good members turning round and saying its too early to plan. If you are committing to helping then it has to be a date booked into the diary now and worked around. I do not want to get to August and have to be out begging people to help out.

I am happy to provide the same support as I have done the 2 previous races, ie night car support and to co-ordinate...but I expect the same level of commitment from everyone else that wants to be involved.

Is there a deadline you have to get back to IVA by?

Maybe someone else would fancy doing some night-time support and you can get some sleep next year!

I actually like the night time support so not really worried about it. What I don't intend to do is everything else! This year there was just the right ammount of support but if we want to man this changeover then we are going to have to go slightly beyond..just enough.

I think we are capable to doing it and would like to see us have a go but it would be better if I had a club wide view rather than just me droaning on So far the few responses I have had off forum have been positive, just be heaps happier if more responded...even if to tell me to shut up.

I think I need to give IVA a response as soon as poss,in case he lets it go to another club..or worst?

I am sure we could man the changeover - just need to add another page to the logistics speadsheet!

I agree that it would be good to help with the running of the event.

I've mailed you Brigitte - but just to publicly make my thoughts known - I am also sure we have the capacity and ability to man a changeover point - in shifts is a good idea so as not to give individuals too long a spell away from the team chasing! (and to allow for comfort/lunch breaks before/following shifts).

We can do it! With a UKnetrunner tall flag type banner in place ?????

Just a shame there are not more public around at stage 3 start .... to gain a bit more profile/publicity for the club - stage 3 start was a little fishy-boaty and quiet as I recall.

Oh Mr Chairman (resting)

The idea of the fishy boaty place is that it is a small changeover that we can manage...out of a small acorn comes the mighty Oak...or something like that!! Its also a change over without club presence at the moment.

As of this morning Uknetrunner.co.uk are the overseers of the stages 2/3 Changeover at Burnham.

No time keeping or parking involved.

Job Description
Keeping Control of the area.
Managing the runners safety.
Making general public aware there is a race on and runners coming in/out.
Making sure spectators don't baulk the changeover area.

Further to the response I have received from members I said we would more than likely be able to mark out stage 3. A nice little walk for a Friday afternoon?

There will be just reward for the club (subject to RNR committee approval) as well as raising the profile for the club and shows our involvement with the RNR.

Subject to ironing out a couple of points I have also accepted an offer of a place on the RNR committee, role to be confirmed but likely to be Press Officer or Record Officer. This I think confirms our commitment to the RNR and I hope receives your backing.

It is my intention to attend the first committee meeting on 28 Oct (Washdown Meeting) when only the 2009 RNR will be discussed along with suggestions (such as ours) for improvements are introduced.

Great news.

Will be more than happy to have "a little walk" on Friday afternoon. Obviously also car moving duties, night support, etc. etc. as required and as past two years

Well done Brig. I've been quiet on this up 'til now but just wanted to say that I think it's a great idea. Can't commit yet, but depending on what stage I run next year, I'd be happy to help out with some of our duties.

Think the fact you will be on the RNR committee is excellent news and will hopefully show that not all internet clubs are rowdy.

Good news all round me thinks.
