Not certain if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I wondered whether we should give feedback to the RNR organisers in a structured manner as being representative of views of the club?
I am not certain whether we would have a whole heap to say, but if we do have any thoughts then it would be sensible to pass them on, and they more hold more weight, and be more useful, if they are sent to them as a single submission from a club rather than many e-mails from individuals.
If you agree then I would be happy to collate any thoughts into a single response. I think it might be better if it was done privately so that any criticism isn't on an open forum. I would, of course, send it round to everyone who was involved before it is submitted, but telling me your initial ideas via a private message may be better.
Any thoughts?

Seems a good idea to me Pete - and constructive.
I'm happy to feed my thoughts into whoever once this has been agreed club-wise - may be an idea to do it through Dips though - as she has been the chief co-ordinator for 2009?

And yes positives should be broadcast publicly - including the great work of IVA and all those connected with the event!
They do a sterling job and make it all possible!

Oh yes, praise is always allowed. I think any feedback we give is only so they can strive to make something that is already excellent even better.
And yes, I'm more than happy for Dips to coordinate. But I'm also happy to take some of the burden if she is a) sick of the idea of RNR or b) (and more likely) has already started planning for 2010

What I would like to see (soon) is:-
- Who is interested in running in 2010? - How the hell we can decide who can have a place for UKNR in 2010? - Can we manage to field 2 teams? - Will we get any teams entered in 2010 .... let's hope the entry rules are in our favour for 2010, and don't change in a way thaat causes detriment to non-Norfolk clubs
What we need is a Norfolk runner to join .... use their address as club base - and then we would BE a Norfolk based club (no?!)

They do a great job it has to be said.
It was interesting that IVA mentioned about the way the support vehicles were driven at night (in the middle of the road rather than hard against the side), but I have not read this anywhere on the website, perhaps it should be publicised a bit more. As Jeannie & I drove away from Yarmouth & Scole we had to pass virtually all 55 teams and it was very much harder passing some teams, i.e those with large mini-bus type support vehicles & those that drove close to the middle of the road.
I don't think we helped the whole traffic problem with the number of different support cars we had following the race, probably nothing too much we can do about that other than restricting the number that stop at some of the stage points and encouraging supporters to stop at other points along the route instead.
One other small point. I think its a bit pointless insisting on a support car when the runner has a couple of miles of prom to run on in Yarmouth. It would be a natural break point for the support car to have a 10 minute break & meet their runner at the end of the prom.

In answer to Als questions.
I'm sure lots are, but life gets in the way and it doesn't mean everyone will be available come next September.
I don't see anything wrong with places being on a 'first come' basis - thats how RNR entry works after all.
I don't think there would be enough runners for 2 teams. Remember last year when there was post RNR relay euphoria and any number of relays were suggested, none of which actually materilaised for UKNR. Even this year a least one stage was going to be run by A.Reserve up until a few weeks ago.
Nothing we can do about it. There are other relays.

Pete...happy for you to take this on...I'm busy playing with my 2010 spreadsheet
I will send you my thoughts via PM as instructed.
HW...G Yarmouth prom is not a nice place to be alone and I would be worried about getting to the runner before he/she reached the end of the prom. I think you will find it all boils down to runner safety, protecting at night.

life!?
Its got to be down to safety issues HW...you can't have runners without support for certain parts of the night route, too confusing for starters. I wouldn't fancy running along that prom on my own at that time of night.

Well I have been trying to get Ian to move to Norwich for a while now, I'll tell him he has to now as it is for the good of the club

Firstly, a great idea Pete!
Ref Gill's comment. It's not an unrealistic expectation that we could end up living in Norfolk, so a cracking idea from Alan.
Oh one small point, you can count me in for 2010 Quite happy to take on 'The Hill'(stage 12) again or another long leg, but preferably not stage 2, as I'm not keen on a coastal run. Don't like the wind.
I realise there may some blood loss ref the stage allocations though, but wanted to stake an early potential claim I know how dear leg 12 is to Linsfella's heart, but he may just be persuaded to let it go

- I am definately interested - First come first served, with an element of pragmatism to ensure we finish within 28 hours. - Probably not, 34 runners - two lots of time keepers/cyclists/support cars. We currently have 80-90 members. 2 teams would be difficult to achieve.
Being as LBM has already mentioned stage preference, I'll put my choices out there now...
I quite fancy stage 1. If not, then Stage 10, 12 or 13. Basically, I want one of the longer stages. If nobody wants 11 then I'll do that again but quite fancy a different (daylight) experience of RNR (hence Stage 1 as preference)
I realise that the above my clash with other people so am more than happy to be flexible. I don't expect any decisions to be made until next year.
Last year there was alot of "I want the same stage again", but now that a number of us have done the same stage again maybe there will be more change? I know I'm less fussed about 11 again. |
