Hi
So I decided to get fit again after a relapse of an enjoyable 10 years.
I started by running along a two mile route along the Thames in Pangbourne and back through the village, keeping my head down so no one I knew could see me walking/jogging while sweating and panting.
I have slowly built it up with the help of a heart rate monitor. I entered a local 10k in June and finished with a time of 1:03:10 which I was very happy with. It reminded me of the fun I had when competing in races ten years ago.
I continued upping my mileage and then entered the Yately 10k 3rd race. It started off badly. I had stopped in at my mums on the way and believe me she doesn't let you relax. She couldn't work out why I was a bit annoyed with myself for not charging up my watch. "well you won't do that again" just what you need to hear. 2k into the race I had considerable buttock pain and so I pulled out.
I now suffer with a tight piniformis after every run now I sit on a tennis ball and rock my hips, all very weird but it helps.
I download my runs to sportstracks and I will make my log book accessible soon. I'm a bit of gadget freak, so I'm always looking for ways to improve my running electronically. If you have any ideas please let me know. I have a couple of tips for the digitally minded and will post them soon.
3.8 miles easy run around Herriard hampshire. Cross country. Beautiful morning, had a deer jump out in front of me, it turned around and was gone completely disappeared in seconds, quite amazing.

Andrew believe me there are many gadget guys on this forum, you should feel at home.
Re:the tight piriformis...sports massage will help as will some stretches.

Hi Andrew. Glad to see you've started a diary. Hope you get the piriformis problems resolved.
I'm a gadget fan as well, so we'll have to compare notes at some point. SportTracks is great, isn't it? What device do you use to capture your runs?

Welcome to diaryland Andrew.
As the others have said, hope you sort the piriformis issue out and can look forward to beating your 10k PB. |

another welcome from me to Diary land, as you'll find or know its a great place to sound off or give advice, sometimes having written about a run (race or training) you can see yourself where things went wrong or even right

Welcome to the club and the members diaries. Hopefully you are more disciplined than me who starts a diary between Jan and March then stops in June / July!
Good luck dancing around your injuries!

Good run this morning. 1 mile warm up, 3 miles at about 9/10m mile pace, 1 mile at 165bps, and 0.8 mile slow down.
Legs felt good and I enjoyed the sunshine.
I use a garmin 305, I think it's great!

I was down to do an easy 2 mile run today but didn't make it...
Instead I sent off my application to the Henley half marathon.
I better go out tomorrow.
Thanks all for the good wishes and advice.

Went out this morning,
Did my 2 miles, the stars were out, I tried out my head torch for the first time and I thought it was superb. I was able to run a path along the river no problem.

Enjoy Henley - I did it a couple of years ago, you have to remember to save something for the hill at 8 miles - but then its a nice downhill run-in from there.
RE: Parkruns - they are great events and spreading very quickly - I have done a couple of venues in London & also Basingstoke & Slough - I hope to get along to Reading before long.
Hope your injury is responding to treatment. |

Busy work week but managed to get out for a 2.5 mile Monday and a 6 mile on Wednesday morning. Missed a run of my Henley training programme. So I should just forget that one, I suppose and don't worry about it. Long run tomorrow.

Mine arrived yesterday. Hubby hasn't stopped laughing yet, but I plan to try it out in the next couple of weeks when my 6am start makes it necessary. |
