All of them? Am either running or supporting and the bad news is I will not be familiar with the area so no pointing out of land marks

This might be a good training run

http://www.ldwa.org.uk/challenge_events/show_event.php?list_option=S&list_type=F&event_id=5294

Also copied this over from RW thread, it confirms what I have read and learnt about Ultra stuff.

quote:
In the numerous training plans I have looked at, the most important thing seems to be long distance back to backs at weekends. I am starting with 13.5 x 2, then 16.5 x 2 and 20 x 2, or 2, 2.5 and 3 hour return runs. I also did a 17.5 mile in the morning and 17.5 mile in the afternoon a few weeks ago ... it was actually much better than I expected and achieved 2:45 for the first part and 3:12 for the second. Funnily enough, I was much less tired the next day than from any previous marathon?? I presume it was because I took it steady and didn't really push myself, walking when needed.

Full details of that one at http://www.ldwa-london.org.uk/FoundersEntryForm2009.pdf - I might have to skip that one as it's the week before Beachy Head

Regarding training, my plan is, after my hols, to start building mileage up fairly quickly.. notable long runs include:

- last weekend in Aug: 9/19 (sat/sun)
- 5/6th Sept: 10/20
- last weekend in Sept: 20/20
- 10/11th Oct: 13/20 (Jog Shop Jog)
- 24th Oct: Beachy Head Mara

amendment:

- 24th Oct: Beachy Head Mara
- 25th Oct: Great South Run

I might as well stay on the south coast and make a weekend of it

Bloody hell...are you sure about the GSR after Beachy Head? I suppose its training for Druids but be careful so near the Ultra Weekend.

I wouldn't exactly be going for a PB, but I think it'd be great training getting another run (in race conditions) in the day after a tough event.

Wow, that sounds like extreme training, Matt. I hope your body doesn't object too strongly!

Hummm I think you need to get the word 'race' out of your head.

Tend to agree with Fishy that you need to be a bit careful of objections here and you will need a recovery/taper from the hard training for Druids.

well, I'll see how it's going nearer the time - I won't do anything that's going to rule me out of the Druid

Thing is, you might not know what will rule you out until it is too late (I can speak from experience on that one!)! So I s'pose we'd better all stay in bed all day every day. Seriously, the golden rule has to be "listen to your body (and take notice of what it is trying to tell you)". But then you knew that, right?

Exactly. tbh, if we're going to get through this event in one piece, we're all going to have to put some serious mileage in. I may not complete everything in my plan, but I'm glad I have one - that's how I motivate myself- make a plan and work hard towards it.

Well guys I have SLIGHTLY more confidence in my ability to complete this now - not at your paces obviously, just my slow but hopefully sure. Having completed the Cotswolds I now know my legs can get up every day for a week and run, well they can trot the downhills and flat and walk the hills but that is my plan for Druids anyway. Our longest day was just under 20 miles so each Druids leg will be a bit longer but instead of a week its only (?!!) three days.

This is now off my events list.

Having used up a years supply of brownie points to get to the RNR, when I found out that this clashes with a family event of J's I lost my nerve and just gave in gracefully.

Maybe next year

(I may still be able to get to the Sunday event)
