SECOND ATTEMPT.......WROTE IT AND IT DISAPPEARED......

Boiling hot day today....not running weather let alone TRI.....

But eh ho....nice big field of over 120, testosterone overflowing.....one for the ladies today....RN, RM, ARMY and us civilians......

no mountain bikes neither , this event gets better every year, i wouldnt mind the money paid for the gear and bikes there today.......

my number was 89, i was due in the pool at 1344.30, but got in around 1350....dopey didnt switch his stopwatch on, doohhhh...but after 12 laps of the 33 m pool i raced the 100 m to my bike, helmet, gloves, sunglasses, shorts, shoes and Vest on and off to the gate to set off for the 20 ride....

Lungs were already in overdrive, that extra few strokes in the pool hurt...weird....climb out of HMS Raleigh and grab my water bottle on the short slope before the climb to Antony, this stretch of road has claimed 4 lives and 33 accidents in the last few years....nice.....it winds and undulates in Capital letters....its horrible.....but also great fun with your eyes shut!!!!! a couple of great fast bits but obviously these are either rode down or climbed on the way back as its a looped circuit to the village of Polbathic and back.....

Back through the gates and to the transsion area, bike racked , helmet dropped and time to run.....nothing....calves hanging!!!
but i kicked on and climbed up towards the gate again, around the base and onto the cross country course, grass, shale and rutted mud, back through the parade ground and through the line.....bottle of evian and a bannana await!!!!

NOW.......GUESSTAMATE.....

SWIM 8~9 MIN
BIKE 50~51 MIN
RUN 27 MIN

I,m edging my bets i,m still the daddy...

but i worked damn hard on a tough course in tough hot weater.....worse still was i still had to cycle home another 4~5 miles after!!!!!

its a great event that gets better every year....nice goody bag, t~shirt , sweeties, gel, energy bar etc...and a nice magazine of new bikes to read in the little boys room.......

i,m off for a hot bath, i,m cream crackered but i love this event and need to do more me thinks.....

He who dares Rodney, he who dares.

Great effort Mark although the magazine and boys room reminded me of the information you shared at the Ridgeway...yuk!

I have been tempted to try a duathlon, not going to get me to do a swim, but a bike/run might be a bit of a challenge I could set myself.

Excellent stuff, Mark. Humungous respect matey!

BTW, what did you tell Dips on the RR? Go on, whisper, I won't tell anyone!

Shaun, you've already done 2/3 of a tri, haven't you? Just the cycling to go, and its in the bag!

Well done Mark - I know the feeling getting off a back and trying to run - totally opposite muscles used for these two events.

Whens the next one?

Nice one Mark. You obviously need a tougher stage at next year's Ridgeway.

Only just spotted this Marky Mark, what was the final time then?? What distance was the bike section? I don't know why these triathlon organisers feel the need to do the run over grassy rutted courses, thats what mine was like and it was a killer!

Krissie,
400m swim,
20k cycle
5k c/c run......

still cant source the full results as its RN.......But 1.29 seems very close, so slower than last year but the weather etc didnt help....

Fancy the tri you did next year.....need to speak to you later about it because i think i remember you stayed in the YHA.....which given the damn early srarts of tri's may be a good idea.....
Watching the Plymouth full tri on the 12th.....now that is a real beast...hope the weather stays good for that ......

Yeah I stayed in the youth hostel down the road, although for a youth hostel it was bloody expensive, but that's Stratford for you. I didn't need to in the end though because my start time wasn't till 11.00 am. I know my target time for August then
