If the flyer idea goes ahead I'd happily post them on the boards at work - I know there are lots of runners in the 4000 staff most of whom do not have a club.

Well you are more talented than I!
Couple of things
1. Affiliated to England Athletics 2. Club Vest included in membership fee (no need to mention cost at this stage)
Perhaps it should be a bit snappier so leave out 'take part' and 'get' for instance?
And maybe the website link be a bit bigger and noticable?
Just my random thoughts, so keep the ideas coming.

Just wondering - I am assuming I'm insured for 3rd parties when competing by being affiliated to England athletics - does this extend to when I'm training?
I was hoping that we could all come up with lots more benefits of club membership ??
Do you think geographically based clubs would resent uknetrunner advertising at their events? do you see any conflict? or are we an alternative that is different enough not to be in direct competition for members? |

| I'm going to sound old school on this, but there appears to be no mention on the flyer of the three old back of the club vest "favourites"(fun , fitness , friendship). Any mention that joining the UKnetrunner clan will help towards towards having fun, making new friends, or helping to get fit may be a good idea. |

I have to smile at this thread ..... interesting one!
Yes, the old one was:-
"UKnetrunner - for fitness, for friendship for fun - for YOU!"
Corny - but the best the committee could manage at the time!
I would recommend NOT mentioning vests - vests don't seem to be a turn-on to joining UKnet, and the shirts cost more (and I have less of them!)
Flyers were produced in small numbers - as one of our initial committee members (Carl) worked for a printing firm so got hold of some at no cost.
Personally, I'd rather our members join in dribs and drabs .... they stay that way - and many have not responded to their overdue renewals by postal letter (snail mail) - I would NOT recommend looking to pay much for this - does the club need to join by more than the natural increase?
I understand the need for more relay-ers - but otherwise personal recommendation is key.
I would sport a car sticker though (if I liked the wording and they can be obtained for a low cost / low quantity!)

I'm glad we've given you some amusement Al.
Good points about vests/shirts & language used in the flyer.
I was suggesting a no-cost rather than a low-cost solution. Although anything produced has to be a whole lot better than my 5 minute effort above, I don't think it warrants going to a printers to get them done.
I agree personal recommendation is the best way of recruiting, but even that is helped if you can then give them a flyer as backup.
I am not sure I agree with you that the way members are recruited has any correlation with whether they renew or not, I would have thought that was more to do with their experience of the club and any interaction they have with other club members their first year.

Bugger...I have already sent them to print HW
Personally I don't think there is much danger of runners joining in droves but I can understand that we don't want grow to big and lose the personal touch.
I think the majority of members join because they don't really want the interaction...or think they don't. Pehaps they simply want to enter races a bit cheaper and balance a busy life. The trick is to get them interested in being more active within the club, relays for instance.
So maybe we need to look at why members don't appear so keen to join in team 'games' . I am guessing family comittments are a major reason.
As much as the name leaves a bad taste F**** are generally out in numbers, is it simply that they have more members or should we be learning a thing or two from them?
One thought I did have is the idea of a social gathering,or perhaps a couple of regional gatherings...perhaps a meal out one evening or something? To perhaps 'flush' the quieter members out and have the opportunity to meet? Just a random thought.
Opps turned into a bit of a ramble.

The thing with Fetch is that a large number of the users of the site are there for the community thing, the social interaction on the site and meeting people through it.
UKnr on the other hand is a running club first and foremost. Many of our members run in club colours and post results on the site (for the GP etc) but don't get involved on the forums very much. Perhaps that (the social interaction side of things) is just not what they want from the club.

www.GoodRunGiuide.co.uk
Interesting web-site. Some useful resources especially with regards to routes (maps & descriptions) - not sure I will be tempted to pay cash to use it! I will make use of my months free trial membership though
Good Idea to get UKnetrunner's details registered there.
Anyone use this web-site?
Matt/Dips - I wasn't aiming for the "Fetchification" of UKnetrunner & recognise that people join for different reasons. Just that membership numbers need to be greater to make "club events" more viable.

Must admit I only found the site because I was looking at a particular race and the organising club put a link to access full details. In fact thinking about it, Matt and HW you might be interested in the race I was looking at !! http://www.goodrunguide.co.uk/RaceDetails.asp?RaceID=233
