Hello Everyone, Recent new member to UKnetrunner and the forum. Well, were do I start, name is Matt Clemson, 35 years old from Swadlincote, Derbys. Have been running for the last 3 or 4 years on and off, but fully bitten by the running bug for the last year and a half. Tried joining the local running club last year but although a nice group, it doesn't really work for me due to family commitments etc, so just fit my runs in when I can and do my own thing - sad I know !
My goals at the minute are to focus on some speed work to build up some strength and improve my times over shorter distances, afew local 10k's / 5 milers, then maybe a half or marathon later in the year but mainly to keep enjoying it.
Looking forward to hopefully meeting new faces over the coming months at some events, and joining in with banter on the forum.

Hi Matt
welcome aboard and I'm sure you'll benefit from YOUR club
Many of us within YOUR club are in the same boat by not being able to commit to a local club for one reason or another and the beauty of this club is you can meet up as much as you like when you like by way of the forums (be that once a day or once a month or once every 6 months the choice is yours )
remember to start a diary and just put down your thoughts of the training sessions you've done good, bad or indifferent, it can sometimes help to read back and also you may get some good advice or just encouragement from fellow clubbies
by reading the club forums you may well be able to give advice on something which could be anything from running to traveling somewhere
I live and train in the flat fens of Lincolnshire (Nr Boston & Spalding) and bar 2 events a year have to travel to racing events and sometimes to do hill training
a couple of races you may be interested in not too far from you is the Notfast Open 10K (Newark 12th July) and Newark Half-Marathon (Newark 9th July) both good events and could be ideal for you to get into racing or treat them as training with company just a thought and only 40mins away from you
I look forward to your input, good luck and see you soon at some event or other

Obviously the UKNR trainers & white socks are getting people intrigued
Hi Matt, good to see another runner from the East Mids. Am sure we'll bump into eachother at some local events (I live in Derby).
I'll echo sentiemtns about the Newark Half as I'm entered in that. The two 10ks Deano mentioned are nice (although I'm not running them this year) but I'll be at the Heanor 5.
There's also a monthly 5k race near Derby between September & April, with a one-off at the end of June. It's very flat and is useful to keep an eye on progress. See www.runningwithdavid.com for details. He also organises some other local races.
Anyway, look forward to meeting you at some point and feel free to share any local races you know of. |

Hi Matt and Everyone,
It nice to see that you're getting a warm, friendly and helpful welcome,
- I'm the other one (Dom) you joined mainly because of Matt and the only reason racing is Matt laid down the challenge (last year) to beat him in a 10 miler and his consistently lost to me since!!!!
I like running (keeps burning of the fat) and my goal is just to get faster.
It's good to see that there is a lot of helpful guys out there willing to provide support. Hope I get to meet some of you.
Good luck tomorrow in the 10k Matt - maybe you'll be able to beat me this time - well you can always hope.

Welcome to the club. As a recent new member myself, I can definately say your running will improve as a result of joining and you will feel very much part of the club straight away. |
