Hello Mike ... haven't popped in before but just had to say ... great running! Are you after HW's record for number of races in one year?

I'm with Ian you can't compare XC with Road. With XC I feel you are more racing others for a position than yourself for a time as there are just too many variables to allow a comparison to be made. It's great fun mind, and excellent strength work out - so enjoy.

Less fat, more fit, but still hedonistic

I agree with Ian - if you can get near your road times on an XC of the same distance, you can probably work harder in your road races

Summer Sun 1OK - Morton Merrell 08 August

Another off road outing with more mud but with sunshine this time!

Nice people and a scenic course but a bit too churned up by horses. Time wasn't great but speedier than last week.

No more racing now till early September - will be keeping up the general training though.

Hi Mike

Hope to catch up with you at the Big Stratford 10k this weekend.

I had planned another LSR before the RNR, but decided a wiser option would be to use a 10k as a speed/tempo session before instead. Although an LSR was part of my Marathon schedule this weekend, I think its proximity to the RNR would have been unwise. I'll have covered sufficient mileage throughout the week to compensate anyway.

It will be interesting to see what this new event is like, as they're hoping it becomes a classic according to the RW entry

Hope to see you there!

Straford's Big 10K M/T 13.09.2009
Back racing today after holidays & work forced a break.

Great to have club company before and after the race (IanT).
This was a race which was very pleasant to run but we both agreed that it was not a pb route, even though only one hill. That said I will be happier when my times get back down to June/early July levels.

Good to meet up with you today Mike and perhaps we'll catch up with each other again at one of the Centurian 5 milers. Don't think I can make Hatton incidentally

Cheers

Work has got in the way of training this last 2 weeks, just managed a couple of sessions.
Kidderminster Shuttle 10K 27/09/09
I've done this race before and don't like it much (several M/T bits and broken tarmac) but I needed a race before my HM next week and this fitted.
Not a great finishing time but 1min22sec better than last year, so OK really.
Lets see what next week brings.

Good luck with next weeks Half Mike!

I know you said you are stepping up to a new distance by tackling a H/M, but I understand its a decent race and I'm sure you'll do fine. It's a race I'd probably have considered myself if it weren't for the fact that I'm racing in the Jaguars 10k next week.

Anyway, hope it goes well for you Mike. I'm not sure, but I think Pearce may be racing that one too.

Good luck Mike, I am sure you will be fine...just go out there and see what you can do, then use it as a bench mark for future halves.

Kenilworth HM 04/10/09
Nice course/organisation/weather and great to find 3 other UKnetrunners at the start for a chat.
Felt good all the way round but a little unsure of how to pace myself.
After a few "not so good" 10K times recently, pleased to get a time 3 bands lower in the GP table - on my first HM for more years than I care to remember.
Great to know I can run OK at this distance and I certainly feel I can knock some minutes off on a good day/course.

Great to hear it Mike and well done for today!

I take it Pearce was one of the other netrunners? Was Dave Robertson (aka Lincsfella) one of the others? Would have liked to have been there too, but was racing a 10k in Norfolk and it was darn windy

Yes LBM it was Pearce & Dave today + Kieron.
The Provisional results have just been posted and my time is strangely better than my watch time, taking me down another GP band!

Thanks Dips, LBM & Heavyweight for recent encouragement.

EDIT 3 days later results have been changed and I'm back to my watch time. Don't mind really as it felt like cheating taking the better time.
