COVENTRY SPINX 5M Nice flat park run last night, bang on my band time and better than I was doing in the Kingshurst 5M series earlier in the year. Couldn't manage to strip off the extra minute & a half though, to get to my recent pb time but all good race experience. Probably back when Coventry Godiva run their 5Miler at the same venue in early Sept. Nice to chat to a spectating Lincsfella at the start!

Saturday. Thought about doing the evening Stratford Summer 6 but a BBQ invite took presence so I dashed off a quickish 8.5K before setting out. Sunday. Walking boots day - 15K of sunny countryside.
Circuit training tomorrow night - then we will see what I can fit in before Evesham 10K next Sunday. |

Mon Gym training Tue Rest Wed Almost 10K around the park Thu 13M bike (via pub) Fri Rest Sat 4.5M country walk Sun 12th July Evesham 10K This was a really nice race. Not sure about the time as my watch and race clock didn't match, so will wait for the official. Reasonably happy to be only about 20 secs above my recent pb. Food at end of race great - Excellent ham roll & home made cake for £1.50 total-plus free coffee, tomatos, apples, strawberries & cream!!
Easy week now before Worcester Pitchcroft 10K.

Good running Mike!
I considered the Evesham 10k myself, but it wasn't to be this year. May well see you there next year though.

Would have done a training run tonight in preparation for Worcester Pitchcroft 10K on Sunday, but instead rushed straight from work to the Droitwich 10K. Close to home and a nice low key evening race with a field of about 150 mainly club runners. A bit hilly but good road surface and few cars. Felt fairly good all round but mildly surprised to knock 7 seconds off my pb.

Saturday 10M walking loop mostly on the Cotswold Way.
Sunday 19th July Worcester Pitchcroft 10K pb I've edited a previous post above - it read like both Evesham & Droitwich were pbs (only Droitwich was). Nevertheless to fall in with Heavyweight's supportive comment I felt I had to try hard for a pb on this very flat course - and that extra motivation did the trick ! Nice to talk to AT from the club at the start and special thanks to one of his friends who paced me in the middle bit. Possible mid week 5K in Walsall this week and a 12K on 1st August. |

West Bromwich Harriers XC 5K Afternoon cream cakes needed running off and nice to be racing on my birthday. Didn't get the hang of this slope sided 2 lap cross country, so my time was fairly poor. However some consolation in seeing someone who beat my Sunday 10K pb finish behind me tonight. |

Kingsbury Classic 12K 01 August 2009
Rain + Mud,Mud,Mud. Very slippy on secomd lap.
This was my first 12K ever. Conditions were really bad; nevertheless disappointed that my time was so poor although I sort of enjoyed it and there were a few club runners finishing behind me. It all race experience and perhaps I will eventually get my XC times nearer to my on-road. |

I did look at doing that 12k myself Mike, as I didn't feel I did myself justice at NTRIX, because I'd only just got shot of a bout of Flu a week previously and didn't train much.
When I read up on it though I noticed that the organisers had said the course was prone to flooding and given the rain we'd had I made up my mind not to bother Anyway, well done on braving what must have been a treacherous course in those conditions.
On your point about hoping to get your off road times close to road race times, I can't see that's realistic and believe they shouldn't be compared like for like when evaluating performance. David, Matt, krissie and a few other UKNR members may disagree, as they're the off-road guru's. All I know is when I embarked on one in Hay on Wye purely as a tough training run, it was evident that this was a different event altogether
