Is this what you're referring to David http://www.foxster.co.uk/Products/Running/Running-Clothing/Vests-Hi-Viz.aspx

the ones i brought with me were BS EN 471.
i,m assuming the ones Alan brought were kite marked too as i think they were RH make.....i,m also guessing that RO is reffering to some teams wearing some well dodgy reflective garments...all of our pics taken at night were very shiny glittery reflective.......but i dont fancy a telling off....i,m such a quiet chap....

Reply from the RO....
"Regarding the vests, providing they provide sufficient reflection to make your runners visible from a reasonable distance that will be OK. It's up to you whether you decide to add extra visibility but you would never be wrong to do so".

So we might want to consider a bit of extra reflection in terms of Hi Viz bands that clip round wrists/ankles....its up to you as night runners really.

I can also confirm that bike support is NOT required for stages 3 and 5. See reply to this query below...

"As for stages 3 and 5, you do not have to provide a bicycle escort on either. However, should you wish to do so, a cyclist would be permissible from Lady Anne's Drive (Access Point) to the changeover at Wells. There is not really any scope on Stage 5 for a cyclist as there is only one very short stretch on the road and there is a footpath along it".

Dips, I have already responded to you by email re the road section of stage 5.
I may be getting on a bit, but my memory is still intact. The short road section on stage 5 is about 2 miles long and if there is a footpath, it has been built since last year. As there are no course changes apart from stage 4 (my stage) then I have my doubts. Why did I need a cycle escort last year?

Matt, have you studied the map on stage 5. How long do you think the road section is?

I am going to be in that area this weekend so I will check it out. and let you know.

Ok Colin but I can only go by what the organiser says. I know you had some bike support last year because I met you and Bill (on bike) at the foot of the hill/caravan park. However, I think you will find that other runners didn't have support.

Dips, when I was being driven back to my car at the end of my run, we passed 1 or 2 runners and they all had escorts. One of them had a car escort and someone else in our vehicle made a comment about surely that isn't allowed in daylight hours. It was just before the Lancaster bomber flew overhead. I'm not going mad, really. It was the first time I had ever met any fellow clubbies so I can't remember names.
Someone please help me out here. There really was a Lancaster bomber.

Bill, you were on the bike - was I running along the road, or was I just dreaming of some tarmac after all that shingle?

Stage 5 - http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2208747 - looks like about a mile and a half on the road, which seems far too short to bother getting bike support for.

That's fair enough Matt. As the organisers have confirmed that we are not going to infringe safety rule G2 for running on the A149 without support means that we won't be penalised for doing so.

Apologies to everyone for wittering on about this so much in the past couple of days, and it's not even my stage. I only raised it because I ran it last year and I genuinely thought we were going to break the rules by not providing support. Personally I was glad of the support because I hate running along a busy road with my back to the traffic.
Promise not to mention it again.

I agree with the back to the traffic thing, so I'll cross over and run facing traffic like I always do

Hiya folks, been meaning to get in touch with words of wisdom over bike support but retirement is proving to be very busy.

Stage 5: Sorry Colin but as far as I remember, there was a footpath for most if not all of the road section in to Cromer - but you didn't use it . Can't speak for all other teams but some of them were supporting on bikes, as I was chatting to a few of them while waiting. If you have the OK it would be far better to do without the bike support as it's just another obstruction on the road and adds nothing to the safety of the runner. One word of warning 'though, as you know Brig, the Race Director is known to change his mind at very short notice.

I think Colin may have missed the footpath as he was distracted by all of the Lancaster Bombers and herds of pink elephants!!! .

Will post some other stuff over the weekend when I've had a chance to get my thoughts in order.

Thanks Bill any help most welcome, I will also make sure Colin stays off the sauce this year!

I will email everyone tomorrow...but just to say I have now received our official start time based on our overall running time...and its 8.30am .

I rounded our overall running time up to 25 hours to give us some leeway and had calculated that would get us a 8am start. Never mind, time for another cup of tea.

I've booked our B & B for Friday night (and checked breakfast was early enough to get to the start by 8:15) - but not sure what to do about Saturday night. I guess most others are either staying up all night or camping?

When I booked I was told it was one of the last rooms available (big stock-car meeting apparently) so if anyone still intends to book somewhere it would be better to get it done soonish.

I'm due to be running in the early hours on Sunday morning so a b&b is not really an option for the Saturday night.

It'd be nice to see the latest schedule to see where we can stop for lunch & tea on Saturday - have to get priorities sorted.

David

I believe Dips has emailed the latest schedule unless of course there have been updates since.

We'll be visiting Gill's family in Norwich that weekend anyway and the intention was to get some sleep after my leg and potentially head for Kings Lynn for the finish after that. As my leg now starts a couple of hours later now, I'll have to see how things unfold.
