I just wonder why people feel that the London Marathon is the only race they have to express their (negative) opinions on every time it comes around.
I find that Windsor Half is hugely overrated and have vowed never to do it again. But I don't feel I have to express that view when others sign up to it each year.
Maybe we should have two London Marathon threads - one for those with enthusiasm for the event, and a seperate one for the curmudgeons to discuss how terrible the event is
I'm very happy to have a place in the London Marathon 2010 |

Laura - if I'd have got in I would've been happy as such cos I enjoy full mara's BUT all the hype that comes with London puts me off and I find it annoying that some people (non runners) belittle other full marathons as if they are lesser in distance or achievement, its this that lays heavy with me at times, daft I know but its me
I'm sure you'll have a great day on the day

If we had to have separate discussion threads depending on how we feel about the London Marathon, I'd definitely be in the "LM Curious" thread!
I have no prejudices either for or against the event, which is not a great surprise as I have not taken part in it yet.
However, I would one day like to find out what all the fuss is about.
Given that I am in no rush, I'll wait until the year my ballot application becomes successful. In the meantime I'm concentrating on carboloading and tapering (always a good combination). |

Can I just say that I'd still like to be considered for the VLM Club ballot please, as I'm obviously too late to apply via the GFA for 2010. Applications were closed before I ran Abingdon.
Thanks

You should have all received the following email from me.
Virgin London Marathon Uknetrunner has applied for our club places for the London Marathon and anticipate receiving 2 places this year, based on our membership numbers.
The draw for the two club places will be held in approximately two weeks time. Confirmation of a date will be emailed out once we have received the places.
In the meantime, if you wish to enter the club draw please email me with your intention to enter the club draw and send your rejection slips to Alan Lacey by Monday 9 November. UKnetrunner.co.UK Running Club, 19 Princess Road, Prestwich, Manchester M25 1HL
To avoid disappointment please familiarise yourself with the Club rules for the places.
London Marathon Entries VI) The club, as being part of the UK Athletics Association, shall receive no less than 1(one) Guaranteed Entry for the London Marathon each year. VII) The decision on who receives that one place will be by Internet Draw organised by the Club Secretary and subject to the criteria as described below. VIII) A draw entrant MUST have been a club member since July 1st in the year preceding the race for which the draw is being held (i.e. for 2006 entries, membership must date back to July 2005). IX) Draw entrants must also supply to the Secretary, the original rejection form from the London Marathon BEFORE the draw takes place. X) Failure to adhere to one or both conditions in VIII) and IX) above, will render the entrant ineligible for the draw. XI) In order to maintain a degree of fairness, a member who wins that place in the Marathon in any one year, shall become ineligible for the draw for the following years event. XII) Should a member, through illness and/or injury, be unable to take up his place as a draw winner, then he/she shall retain that place for the following year and enter accordingly by London Marathon rules and regulations. XIII) This guaranteed place remains continuously under the rules and regulations of the London Marathon and at no time is transferable, except in XIV) below. XIV) Should the draw winner feel that he/she will be unable to compete, for whatever reason, there is the option to transfer that place to another eligible club member(declared as Reserve at the time of draw). This option is restricted by date limitations as declared by the London Marathon. XV) Any member winning a place under the above system, will be required to wear a UKnetrunner club vest.

I too have emailed Dips my intention to enter, and (Royal Mail willing), my rejection slip will be winging its way to Alan shortly.

Mmmm, having done London as my first marathon (and I wouldn't have changed that for anything) I can understand why people get so excited about it. It is the one that (almost) everyone who hasn't run a marathon wants to strive for, for many different reasons.
Having done another 6 afterwards and rating them all higher than London I would still love to go back and have another crack at it with a bit more experience under my belt. That said I also understand the adverse comments, I often get the tired old question of 'how far is that one then?' when I explain that I am running a marathon at the weekend.
Shaun, knowing how much you love your space during a race I cannot imagine you running this one somehow!
Good luck to all involved next year.
In't running brilliant. |

Sorry guys, a bit of a hiccup at VLM towers has delayed our receipt of the club places. I hope to be able to report the arrival next week.
