Once we have finalised a draw date and 'getting forms in' deadline I'll send a email around about the club draw.
Hold tight for now and keep those rejection slips safe.
At the moment we haven't applied for our club places and we ideally would like to see membership hit the 100 which will mean 3 places.

I didnt get in either I also do NOT want to be in the club ballot for London
London does NOT inspire me at the moment, maybe sometime in the future BUT other Full Marathons do such as Spires & Steeple Challenge (multi terrain marathon) as its different and new
good luck to those in the london mara and the club ballot, my boat is steady and not rocking over London

Careful Alan, a lot of people got VERY cross with me when I expressed the same opinion - maybe they won't mind you saying it so much

J got her rejection mag today.
I have not received confirmation of being successful in the draw yet - beginning to doubt the website. |

LB - I too agree with Alan & you on your view/opinion of the London Mara, its what makes us all different and in a democratic society we're all allowed a different view and able to say so
I've applied 3 times up to now and not got in and every time when I've applied I've always wondered do i really want to get in?
a work mate of mine applied for London and got in & he's not a runner, is 18+stone and is hoping to finish in under 6 hours and will take a week off work as he'll probably be laid up for that long afterwards (his words as he did the sea bank mara when at school and was ill for over a week, that was over10 years ago)
I think my work mate FITS the criteria better for what London Mara is all about I guess = having fun and creating a feel good factor for the country, which I admit, I too enjoy watching the scenes unfold on TV of EVERY runner taking part
I've only run 10 marathons so far and apart from the Sea Bank Mara which is special to me, the one that sticks out is Bungay Black Dog Marathon, with its organisation AND on the 2nd lap when the Half marathoners come past, the respect that they showed to the full marathoners (something Edinburgh relayers didnt)
I wonder how many who got in London will NOT run in the end, which is shame for those who REALLY want to
I've been offered 2 places (work related for London) but when I race I wear my/OUR club shirt/vest, its how my Dad/Army educated me, loyalty to the family you belong to, may sound daft but I'm from a VERY strict disciplined background that is ingrained
sorry if the above offends anyone about London, its just my view and i REALLY wish all those running in London Mara all the best and I will be watching
waffle over

This is indeed a very democratic place ... and where we can all express our opinions.
My opinion is backed up with trial (I have done London 3 times and felt 3 different ways):-
2003 - First Marathon - buzzing with the excitement of it all and in awe of the size
2005 - Achieved a PB - eyes more open to take in the bigger picture - and although PB achieved .... event felt nothing like the first time.
2007 - Horrible ... didn't help that I had the marathon from hell - but saw the event from another angle - and it's over commercialism.
From the ones I have done (I can't comment on the ones I haven't done!):-
- I prefer Edinburgh - just feels much more enjoyable (weather and injuries permitting) - smaller (until 2010?) and more varied in terms of scenery.
- I prefer Cardiff - although that doesn't exist any more...
- I prefer Nottingham - again nice and varied and Nottingham is special to me anyway (AND get to run past the City Ground!)
On the don't prefer list:-
- Luton - Aaaarggghhh!!! 3 laps, lumpy, December .... enough said!
- Blackpool - although it is the one I have done most - 2 laps, usually hot and the concrete walkway on the North of the route is horrible!
It would be interesting to see the opinion of the London Marathon of those who are doing it for the first time in a few years time...
And LB: people know I don't keep my opinion to myself!
