With ballot entries having been electronic-only this year, I can't help wonder how many will be told that they are "in", when their entries weren't serious / well thought out in the first place, and then don't bother to pay. Quite a few, I reckon.

Interesting Fishy ..... the old entry system of a cheque in with the application form seemed right to me - and if you were serious you entered - your cheque was there as commitment (also good for donation in return for a FLM fleece/jacket if unsuccessful).
Expecting people to pay on successful entry is bound to lead to a high proportion of changed minds who entered on a whim!
Don't forget folks: Club places (minimum of 2) will be available and there is normally a good chance of getting one .... I for one will NOT be in the ballot (neither will Brigitte, Bren and probably a good number of club members).
More details on the club ballot entry system soon.
I've been there, done that .... it was special the first time - but for me it won't be again ... AND THERE ARE BETTER MARATHONS OUT THERE (with much easier entry criteria and better overall experience!)
Good luck to all that want to experience the WOW of the London Marathon though.

which is all down to individual opinion. I can't imagine a marathon being better than London, just from the sheer volume of support. Am looking forward to April already. I know others feel the same.
Of course, others hate it. |

It is indeed all down to individual opinion - and when London was my first (17 marathons ago....) - I thought, as all do "this is great!".
Since then I have been lucky enough to experience others - which made me realise that although the big event buzz of London is something that had to be experienced, once done it was nice to get away from the buzz.
For me, personally speaking, anyway.
For those who love it - great - horses for courses!

Only one i have run, but is the best atmosphere of any race i have run. Struggled in 2007 because of the heat but still the best experience ever.
I imagine there are other more picturesque and more rewarding marathons but i guess this is the bench mark for most people.
will be entering the club ballot this year if i don't get in.

Didn;t you have to give credit card details when you entered the ballot and the payment has been automatically processed - the payment link being only for those who gave cards that have now expired, been cancelled etc?
If it is genuinely a system of 'now you're in, please pay, then that seems stupid. I think I;m right in saying that if they have lots of people defer/drop out then the charities get the spare places - which is a shame for all those who missed out on the ballot because others only entered speculatively, but it's the only sensible system I suppose (much better than re-opening the ballot in March when most people have made other plans).

I did not get in.
I am feeling a mixture of disapointment and relief if I am honest. That said I will still be putting my name forward for the club ballot though.

Just a quick reminder of the rules for the club draw.
To be eligible for the draw for one of the places you must meet the following criteria, as specified in the club's constitution:
*A draw entrant MUST have been a club member since July 1st in the year preceding the race for which the draw is being held (i.e. for 2008 entries, membership must date back to July 2007).
*Draw entrants must also supply to the Secretary, the original rejection form from the London Marathon BEFORE the draw takes place.
*Failure to adhere to one or both conditions above will render the entrant ineligible for the draw.
*In order to maintain a degree of fairness, a member who wins that place in the Marathon in any one year, shall become ineligible for the draw for the following years event.
*Should the draw winner feel that he/she will be unable to compete, for whatever reason, the place should be returned to the Club Secretary to transfer that place to another eligible club member(declared as Reserve at the time of draw). This option is restricted by date limitations as declared by the London Marathon.
*Should a member, be unable to take up his place as a draw winner after this date, then he/she shall retain that place for the following year and enter accordingly by London Marathon rules and regulations.
*This guaranteed place remains continuously under the rules and regulations of the London Marathon and at no time is transferable, except as stated above.
*The successful winner(s) of the club place(s) are representing UKnetrunner, and as such MUST run in club vest & club colours.

I'm presuming that means you're in VLM through the ballot? If so, congrats.
(my other, hopefully less likely, assumption is that you're in the club ballot) |

I didn't get a place, boo! On a plus note, I do quite like the rain jacket they sent me! Can I enter the club ballot please? Can I send Alan a scanned copy of my rejection letter?
