Got mine too. Yay!!
Number 26162.
The next 30-odd days can;t go quick enough.
And one odd thing I saw in the magazine, is that my next-door neighbour is on page 30

it confused me when I saw your numbers were just 1 different - I thought "what a coincidence". I'm a bit slow
Starting to feel more realistic now? |

That's her. She kicks my a*** at the Derby 5K each month, so I'm very glad our training runs never coincide as it could be embarrassing

Vanessa Raw, and yes you do beat her (then again, you beat nearly everyone ). Though apparently all the Loughborough Uni triathletes use it as a training run, go off really slowly and do huge negative splits.
Maybe we should get you and her lined up in swimming kit and wearing a bicycle helmet and see who wins.....

Ah yes, I know the one - she's rather attractive:

I could probably beat her on a bike if given a couple of months to get back into it.
Swimming's a different matter all together though. She'd kick my ass at that.
Anyway, she's clearly very talented and if I could reach the same level in just one sport as she's reached in three then I'd be incredibly happy. |

Back on topic (kind of)...
Got this month's RW yesterday which (as usual for this time of year) is a London Marathon special. Must admit it made me feel a bit sad I'm not running it this year.
Am looking forward to a rare Sunday morning in bed though, watching the telly. |

As a married man I don't feel it would be prudent for me to comment on the attractiveness of my neighbour....
The bit in RW was good, but it did mean I lay in bed last night thinking of the route and race day rather than getting a good night's sleep ahead of my long run this morning. 20 miles off the back of less than 5-hours sleep may be a bad idea - we'll find out in about half an hour....

Oi you lot - stop thinking about girls and get on with the running!
It's getting a bit sexist on this thread......or is it sexy?! |

Pete - let me know if you're thinking of putting your house on the market!
Damn! Just remembered. I'm married already as well.

Listening to the radio this morning there was much talk of the marathon on Sunday. This guy brought tears to my eye and reminded me what the London Marathon is all about.

We get consumed with times and targets and sometimes forget to be thankful for the vision and tenacity of Chris Brasher in establishing the London Marathon with its unique involvement with the community and charitable giving.
Have a fantastic run all of you and above all enjoy the event.

Thanks Dips, just read that and I have a 7 year old boy and am sat here with tears streaming down my face.
That is real inspiration, times don't really motivate me anymore (not a dig at the speedy people!!) but trying to do something to change people's lives really does.

Found this on the Justgiving Website..some advice from one runner to another which some of you might be interested in...applies to any marathon or indeed any race I think!
Dave Beattie says: April 24, 2009 at 10:50 am Alison, first of all best wishes with your run for a deserving cause. I have been advising some runners for St. Catherine’s Hospice about race day nerves, and here is what works for me (I have finished over 100 marathons, and a few dozen ultras):
1. Pre-race checklists - ticking them off is a comforting routine, all is going to plan. 2. I print out the kind messages on my justgiving page, and read them just before handing over my bag before the start. I recall those messages and see my friends’ faces smiling - then I clmb into an imaginary protective bubble that will keep me calm and focussed for the race. 3. Have 3 different goals - Getting Round, Realistic Target Time, over the Moon Time. 3. Start at even pace for the realistic time, settle for getting round if things go wrong, and only go for “Over the Moon” time if you feel strong after negotiating Blackfriars Underpass, at 22 miles.
I do not wear an Ipod - I hook into the music and shouts which motivate me along the way, and ignore the music which doesn’t work for me. It is the unexpected shout from a supporter you did not expect, which is the biggest boost - wearing an Ipod you would miss it. Running the London is all about being in the moment and soaking up the great atmosphere and waves of support.
