As I'm not sure of the level of interest in the Ridgeway Relay and whether or not it's realistic to enter a team, perhaps we can use this thread to test the water.

Importantly, a date hasn't been agreed for this event, but it will be in June http://www.marlboroughrunningclub.co.uk/ridgewayrelay.shtm
In addition, entries need to be in early, as demand is likely to be high.

Info quoted from the offcial site....

"The Ridgeway is one of England's national trails, covering 86.5 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton Hill near Marlborough.

The Ridgeway Relay is a team relay, organised by Marlborough Running Club. It is run over ten legs, the legs varying in length from 5.4 miles to 11.0 miles - all teams must include at least 8 male, 2 female, or vice versa. The route is scenic, hilly and off-road. Teams are responsible for their own route planning & support on the day and we strongly advise that you recce your leg in advance!"

For info, Fishyweb has already expressed an interest

Any info, lessons learned etc etc would be really useful if we decide to go for this one. Thanks

Ian

I enjoyed doing this last year & would be interested again this year. I think the entry deadline last year was around the beginning of April.

There are a couple of other relays that have been mentioned & are around the same time though :

Castles Wales Mid-June http://www.lescroupiersrunningclub.org.uk/castles/
Cotswold Gloucester 27th June http://www.cotswoldwayrelay.co.uk/

The Welsh one requires 20 runners, might be difficult and the cut off times are not too lenient so its a no from me for that one.

Wouldn't mind the Cotswolds but timing isn't good for me.

I liked the Ridgeway last year, might be up for a leg.

really enjoyed this last year even running with sore achilies. Would be interested in a leg. The castles relay looks good but pretty tough.

Less fat, more fit, but still hedonistic

Would be interested in Ridgeway (so long as I am wrapped in cotton wool for the preceding weeks!!) but would depend on date. If doesn't clash too much with Ridgeway (both June) might be up for Cotswolds. Castles is much too fast for me.

And what about you LBM? Are you available for any of these relays?

At some stage it might be worth either an e-mail to all members about these relays and/or a bit on the home page?

Yes thanks David, I have already contacted Alan about a DLIST for a global email drop. Alan said he will send me the details and I'll take it from there.

There is in fact a piece on the main page of the site propmting members to contact me with any interest in Relays incidentally, but I'll review what's there nevertheless.

A specific Relay section has also been created and the hope is that Matt can trasfer all Relay specific threads to this area. This will add focus and is more convenient.

Finally, I have already expressed a desire to run a leg in the RNR and am in theory up for a leg of Ridgeway (although I'm not strictly an off roader)but given that the organisers have only just announced the date, it has been difficult for members to commit, including me. This falls around my birthday and I usually take some leave at this time.

I'll put my name down as a possible though.

Just for info, this is a letter I received last night in response to my query of the 7th Feb to the organisers of the Ridgeway Relay

Hi Ian,

Good hear you are interested.

We'll include you when the invitations go out in the next couple of weeks.

The date of the event is 21st June. This is the 20th. Ridgeway Relay, so we are planning to mark the occasion somehow, possibly with some sort of memento for all participants - not sure what yet, but it will mean the entry fee has to go up this year.

If you haven't heard any more by the end of this month please get back to
us.
