Hello fellow runners,
My name is Steve O’Donnell and Im from Grays in Essex, I started running in 2007 as my new years resolution was to do the Great North Run which I completed in 2hrs, sort of stopped running until March 2008 when I put in for the Great North Run again (much to my wife’s annoyance), this time completing it in 1hr 49 minutes and 45 seconds.
Im looking to greatly improve these times and hopefully progress as a runner. My Pb’s are:
5k / 23.54 (London City Race 08) 10k / 48.30 (Tumbridge Wells 10k 08) Half / 1hr 49.45 (GNR 08)
Im a very lazy trainer but im loving the sound of your Grand Prix competition to make me put more effort in (v competitive male)!
Ive just had the flu before xmas so haven’t trained for nearly month, its amazing how quick I lose my fitness! Oh well first race of the year is on the 18 of Jan (10 miles).
You will probably see mee a lot in the injury forum as i am unfortunately quite prone! currently i have a problem with my neck / shoulder area on my right side since about September!
I look forward to meeting up with some of you at future events!
Happy running

Hello again Steve and welcome to the mad house.
A good PB for the TW 10k as its not flat is it.
Not sure if you are doing the GNR again this year but a few from the club are and there are plenty on here who will give you a kick up the backside should you feel lazy

Hi Steve and a big welcome.
Don't worry about the injuries. Go for slow steady progress and I'm sure you'll be fine. The first book about running that I ever read was by a bloke called Cliff Temple. He said there were two kinds of runner: injured or recovering from injury and both have a permanent runny nose.
Hope you're going to like the club.

Hi Steve, welcome to the club.
Am sure you'll get all the motivation you need from this place. Plenty of people around your pace for you to compete against. |

Welcome Steve, another lazy trainer bit like myself!!. Although i'm sure you will not be allowed to get too lazy on here. Your times are very good and plenty of scope for improvement, add your diary to the diary page and keep everyone up to date on your progress, and also so we can give you the relevant kick up the backside when its needed!!

Hi Steve,
Welcome onboard!
I am planning on doing the GNR this year for the first time.
I'm also quite injury prone, and sympathise with you entirely!

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the club. Your probably similar to a lot of the runners in the club - looking for motivation and overcoming / recovering from injuries. Hopefully see you at some event (maybe the NTRIX next year, or round Norfolk relay this year?

Hi Steve I'm turning into an injury prone runner myself, mainly with my legs. I only recently joined the forum and have already found it brilliant for motivation to I've actually started to enjoy running. All the best and good luck with your race on the 18'th.

Hello there Steve
Luckily for me I'm not so injury prone .... but I am a tad lazy Your PBs are ahead of mine but behind my targets..... so you best get training or I'll be on top of you in the Grand Prix Oh - don't know if I mentioned before that I'm a wee bit competitive like that too
Also.... have entered the ballot for GNR

- Many thanks for all your welcoming messages, the have given me an instant lift and more importantly the urge to put my shorts on and get out there on the road in the freezing cold!
I am really looking forward to competing in the club Grand Prix but I think the amount of races I enter might hold me back (2 pesky kids and a wife) from challenging at the top of my group.

Hi Steve
Welcome on board. I don't think you're the only one who has lost fitness due to winter ailments so a lot of us can sympathise and I think there could be some exhausted, snotty finishers at various races on the 18th (I know I'll be one of them). I hope it goes well for you and you make a good start to the Grand Prix season
