I can empathise with that too Ian. I find it difficult to run slowly and have to really discipline myself to keep HR low on long runs.
I seem to feel most comfortable on longer runs if I'm running about 75%-80% of heart rate, but I appreciate the importance of running at 70% on the long stints

I have a conumdrum with HR training ...in that it feels easier than my HR says it is when I start to pick up the pace ... I am very good at long slow stuff but need to mix it more...
Ian ...lots of snow today at the coast... and bitterly cold.... still its not always like that! Are you going to join Mij and I for a run one weekend when he is up? |

9th February 1830 7.7km in 44min 46sec Ave HR 1531x1600mt 7.25 1x800mt 3.43 1x600mt 2.50 1x400mt 1.50 1x200mt 52sec Absolutely atrocious conditions tonight, heavy rain, ....come back snow and ice . Really pleased with run tonight felt really good and strong from the off for a change, it was chucking it down and i was like a drowned rat within 10min i was tempted just to have a tempo run, but i decided to stick at what i had planned and pleased i did, the 16 and the 8 were really good and hr peaked at 181 very good for me! after that though my watch was soaked, the light was poor and was struggling to press the lap button in all the right places but think i more or less managed okay. No problems at all other than WET!. I really think i can start to feel the benefits of varying my training in the last few weeks, Bluewater 4k time trial a week on Saturday so will be interesting to see if my training can be put against the clock.

Even it was the 12th Claire i'm still not at home, back up the road today though, yes had heard there was a touch of the white stuff again yesterday up north.
12th February 1830 4miles in 42min 15sec 6 x 200mt with 1min rec Nice little 2 mile jog then done 6 x 200mt and turned into Usiah Bolt!!! Got faster each one and peaked with last one in 41sec, i was quite impressed with that i thought . although i was a sprinter in my heyday as a 16-20yr old. Things feeling quite good at the moment. Little bit sleety but just damp underfoot so no issues really

Good run Ian! All the signs look good for you at the moment.
Admit the colder weather helps me, so long as it doesn't affect the lungs. I've noticed on some of the really cold days when I've done intervals or raced, my chest can suffer if I don't protect my mouth/nose with a Buff.
I'm sure you'll go from strength to strength judging by your positives!
Cheers
Ian

Good luck with the speed stuff Ian.
I've also stepped up my focus on speed sessions and I believe they are beginning to show dividends. Thankfully, the 5K TT's I've scheduled are ensuring I get my speed sessions in, even if midweek speed sessions are affected by factors outside of my control
Hopefully the legacy of NITRIX is behind you now
Cheers
Ian

16th February 1830 8.87km in 52min 39sec Ave HR 149 Another decent session tonight, 1 x 800 in 3.35, 3min rec then 4 x 400, in 1.37, 1.44, 1.36, 1.37 2min rec between each then 4 x 200 in 56sec, 45sec, 50sec, 45sec. Some times bit erratic but can definitely see benefits in these speed sessions now and definitely feel much stronger for them. Looking forward to my 4km on Saturday.
