W/C Monday 16th February - TOTAL 22 Miles
Monday Travel Home (REST)
Tuesday 4 miles / 35:44 (avg 8:56) Didn't know what i was going to do when I left maybe 3 maybe 6.... I ended up on my 5 mile route but cut it short as it was supposed to be slower than the speed I was at and I was tired - but it did help me feel better
Wednesday REST
Thursday Comfortable 6 miles / 55:33 (avg 9:15) Put the Heart Rate strap on for the first time in months - avg 168 / max 179 (Feb last year was avg usually 175 ish / max 185+ ). Don't have proper Max but have seen 202 a couple of times and over 195 a lot last year. Have measured Min a few times over the months and usually maybe 46 but it can take me a while to find it, watch the clock and then try count at the same time! Has been 43 May last year.
Friday REST Was going to run home but ended up working much tarer than planned as I felt so much better generally and decided to save myself to LSR rather than jump the mileage too much after hols
Saturday
Me LSR - 12 miles / 1:44:14 (ave 8:41, ave BPM 163 / max 183, up/down about 2500ft ) Was only planning 11 miles but misjudged route a wee bit, only supposd to be about 9:10 pace max, was fairly windy a bit of the wa BUT I felt fab after a rubbish lethargis stiff first couple of miles! Not like I was running too fast at all hardly breathing heavy an only really stopped running and in the house sweat broke! 1 8:55 148bpm 2 9:10 158bpm 3 9:08 164bpm 4 9:15 174bpm 5 8:46 175bpm 6 8:51 174bpm 7 8:14 169bpm (steepish down hill after mostly up) 8 8:36 167 (still steepish down hill half mile but then flat into wind) 9 8:38 165 10 8:25 164 11 8:16 145 12 7:55 151
It was very bizarre, the last bit was flat and the wind kind of died down a bit or was gently behind me and I felt great other than hungry! Hungry from about 6 miles when I took a gel. Didn't eat enough last night really and only one breakfast instead of my usual two for a 2pm run.
Within 15 minutes of walk jogging home ( I misjudged the route and decided I should stop at 12) my heart rate was under 100 - lower than when i left the house to start!
Hopefully I'm not just on a mad high high and this bodes well for next Sundays Lasswade (hilly ) 10 mile race
Sunday REST Was gonna do an easy one but didn;t get up till midday and by the time I had my internet fix and a trip to the shop for more food it was time to get the mums and go eat Think the rest was a good thing anyway - felt sick at about 2pm I think as still hungry today but better now

Sorry to hear about all the problems Ann, I hope your sister is okay and things work out okay with your OH's mum.
You might find running helps. I can't speak from experience but others on here have found it does with this sort of thing.
Fingers crossed things improve for you and try not to worry about things you can't change. Focus on things you can improve. |

Sorry to hear about all your problems on the domestic front, as Stephen says running is a great help and is good for giving you some clarity sometimes. Take care.

First things first Smout...I think you need some time to digest OH's mothers' news so don't go badgering him into planning too far ahead. We all have to go through the process at our own speed before we reach acceptance. Just support him for now and worry about ramps/if when you need them.
My daughter finally gave up smoking last year, all my nagging did no good what so ever...she did it when she was ready. Unfortunately it took a heart attack to make my OH stop! Having been a 20 a day for 15+ years I know how difficult it is to make the decision and stick to it...besides I never related the morning cough and SOB to smoking.
I hope you sister recovers well, there is a good ad on at the moment relating to strokes and its true, caught early recovery is good.
Take care and use your running to expel your frustrations.

Thanks folks
Took day off work yesterday and did not a lot which was just what I needed. Back to work today was awful mind .... maybe I just don't want to work anymore LOL
Yep Dips - OH is a bit strange though (as I am - just in different ways ). Never accepts stuff until it's so late it stresses everyone around him out while he then deals with it. We guessed his mum was heading towards wheelchair an oxygen (was part of discussions buying the not yet built house back in July 2007) but it actually being the case and sort of coming sooner I think it the hard part. She's ok ish just now though
As for the smoking well I did the no nagging for four years (I asked him the 2nd week after we met if he needed nagging or not - he said not) and I've had enough! But he knows it and I'm sure he'll come good when he's ready - just better not be too late
Anyways - I did run tonight and I feel better

Smout - my thoughts are with you as I have and still am going through different life challenges for one reason or another
take some time for yourself and at the same time let your OH find his own level (this is what my Jen lets me do) I still have lots of looking out of the window lost in my own thoughts, once I snap out of it I put my trainers on and head out the door (normally between 0800-0930) and have some quality me time with my thoughts
hope the above makes sense, best wishes from Jen & Me

Just caught up on your diary after returning from my expedition up your end of the country. Sorry things are tough at the moment and I hope that they start to feel better for you soon. If I had known I would have swung by Edinburgh on the way back from Aviemore with a hug and a bar of chocolate

Thanks folks and Krissie - chocolate and hugs!!!! If I'd known that was on offer I would've called
My sister seems to be doign OK - still has her sense of humour. Happy today as she managed to say the word purple - me too cos it's my favourite colour
Well as per week detail at top of the page, I decided on a rest today after yesterdays longest runs since Jedburgh Half in October. Happy with my 22 miles this week and looking forward to next Sundays race.... I think! Should PB with not too much problem provided weather stays fine
I know it's late but bizarrely I still feel tempted to go out for a few miles! Really really having to work on not - the rain is helping though

W/C Monday 23rd February - TOTAL 26 miles
Monday Grass Intervals Total (incl W/Up Down and recovery) about 3.75 miles
Went to the group training tonight. Nice to run a wee bit faster :o) Lights still being worked on so still no track!
On the uneven lumpy grass we used a big figure of 8 that's maybe about 620m.
6 * 3 minute runs / 2 min recovery (I tried to keep jogging / moving in between)
662m - 7:23/mi (avg/max bpm & rec 163/183 & 154) 690m - 6:59/mi ( 177/189 & 163) 664m - 7:15/mi ( 178 /193 & 168) 662m - 7:19/mi ( 182/194 & 170) 659m - 7:24/mi ( 184/195 & 173) 674m - 7:13/mi ( 186/196 & 186 but only 1:18 an stopped watch)
Seemed to feel breezier in the last two or three but that could;ve been getting tired :o) Was wee bit wary of my NTRIX foot but it seemd fine.... felt weak on the tight corners but not sore so happy
Oh yeah - Max BPM hit 197 just into the jog after my last run - an I still think it can go higher if I did a specific session (I defo didn't feel maxed out at that point).
Tuesday Jog Scotland group 3 miles Was probably 3 miles total but I only measured form after crossing the road to 'the start' so Garmin says 2.84 in 26:05 / avg pace 9:12 / avg bpm 165 Max 176
Nearly ran home but my mate Pete offered me a lift an I thought why not. Hard night last nght and I remember my diary only has one 3 miles in it today so likely be adding too much to the week.
Wednesday 2 miles total / 18:28 Wee run to work the direct route as I was late Intended a longer run with some fast miles tonight but as the dark came down an the time passed I changed my mind was too hungry and still hadn;t finished work (oh why do i pick up the helpdesk phone after 6pm - although by the time I left I had a very happy man on the end of the phone so made my day much better ). OH picked me up after 7 But TBH I have had a couple of good days at work and feelign much happier than last week Will do the run in the morning instead
Thursday TOTAL - 6 miles 12:45 1 mile 9:25 (Avg 163 Max 173 BPM 4 miles 31:48 / avg 7:57 (Avg 185 / 193 bpm) 7:37 (slightly down), 8:07 (into the wind), 8:37 (uphil), 7:25 (long descent) 1 mile 8:47 (Avg 185 / max 188 bpm) Basically did the 6 miles with a stop to reset Garmin before and after the 4 miles and a calf stretch
18:00 Pilates - ouch - 3 weeks off and ouch
Friday & Saturday REST Had considered easy stretch you legs few miles run for one of these days but couldn't be bothered really (well Friday was an unexpected on the phone at work not doing the stuff I expected day and Saturday I decided the heavy legs is the mileage jump last week after holidays) so thought likely my head and legs were after a proper rest before Sunday. So they got it
Sunday TOTAL 11.5 miles OOO I have to go to Rosewell soon for Lasswade 10
Why am I nervous - more nervous than I remember before! Different nervous from the Marathon (cos that contained a lot of fear LOL). Definately nervous tho - it's been buidling since just before bed last night and I feels weird. Like there's two bits of me I keep jumping between - one calmly making my breakfast dealing with the cats drinking my tea and having a stretch an rub of my morning eyes and considering th eslightly damp weather out and what shoudl I wear...... then the other that speaks a hundred words a minute and keeps thinking about each-mile-how-fast-should-i-do-it-the-splits-from-last-year-i-could-manage-this-will-i-wear-shorts-and-is-it-these-trainers-or-these-ones-gloves-do-in-need-gloves-?-an-just-my-vest-?-yep-just-my-vest-done-that-before-what-about-the-legs-risk-shorts-nah-might-look-too-much-like-i-know-what-i'm-doing-do-I-know-what-I'm-doing-?-and-it's-sort-of-cold-looking-but-i-haven;t-been-outsde-or-looked-at-the-wather-i-have-no-idea-how-cold-it-is-ok-put-the-shorts-on-and-take-options-ok-best-go-wee-again-i-don;t-need-towee-again-do-i-dunno-finish-my-breakfast-no-bananas-best-get-banana-and-do-i-need-blah-blah-blah---
??!! I feel a wee bit mad this morning
Well - Lasswade 10 miles went well I did get my PB afterall and much faster than I thought I'd be capable of at that race today!
Race report here http://aluaka.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~1907.asp
1 Mile W/U 10 miles RACE about .5 mile warm down as I was exhausted!
Month totals.... January Total 65 (last year 64) February Total 58 (last year 103 but I didn't go on holidays for 1st 16 days!) March has started with todays running

W/C 2nd March - TOTAL 33 miles
Monday Recovery Run 3.5 miles / 34:11 (avg 9:46, Avg bpm 160 max 170)
Ooo the quads!!
Tuesday Feel lot better today but still tired! 12:15 Jog Scotland group so I stayed with the latter of the intermediates - 3.1 bumpy miles in 34:11 (avg 10:46 pace / Avg 160BPM / 173BPM)
Wednesday TOTAL - think I may count 6 miles Nice 3 miles easy to work. 3 Miles / 27:39 (avg 9:13, BPM avg 165 max 180) I was up nice and early an out by 8:20 which is early for me. Still a wee bit ice on the path but nothing bad and I loved it. NOticed for the first time I can see the castle for a very shrt bit on the path as I get close to work! 7pm Pilates
Then it got a bit Ggggrrrr......... yesterday we all got told how much payrise we will (or in many case wont) get and how much bonus if at all you may have got but sort of not cos you may or may not in a few years time start getting some of it..... Then today's team meeting ran further into lunch than planned turned into (for me) a stomach churning debate about cost cutting changes to a certain aspect of our work and a ranty email from me about what i will and wont d that may risk my job but then started running home and .41 of the way the on call phone goes and its let my friend know no cinema, dial in an listen to the meeting while running sort of back to work - and sit in my sweaty run kit until after nine and someone else take over for me to get dinner and some sleep.... coincidentally tonight kind of timed itself perfectly to back up my ranty email
So I ran home at 21:20 - 2.32 miles / 18:45 (told my boss it would take 20) (avg 8:04, BPM avg 100 / max 183) Max was the start when I went flying at zoom factor 50 for about 300 yards down the wee hill an across the road!
So OH started the food as I left work and was ready by the time I showered, I'm writing this and I;m off to bed expecting a phonecall around midnight to get up and work Maybe I'll be lucky
But Woo Hooo - was 2 weeks off the booze for me at 9pm and wooo hooo-er - 87 days and 10 hours till the Marathon
I think
Night folks zzzzz
Thursday 07:30 - 3 miles easy to work / 27:35 (avg 9:11 / BPM avg 152 / max 178) Amazing for me to be out so early! it was lovely an cool and birght So glad I wasn;t called an managed this. However didn't manage anything at lunch other than about a 20 minute break (which really is the hke to get through our building works to the fron tdoor an back ) 6pm - Pilates. Really starting to enjoy this - like I feel it is doing something and my posture is better. Have to find the cash for another block somewhere
Friday Well - last night planned to try to get up and be out a run by about 7 or half past so I'd be in work 'on time' (that's in the Smout Time Zone mind) Work called at 5am and I managed to start making porridge as my alarm went at 6:10 but then they called back! Finished my rubber porridge and juice and green tea by about half 7 and headed out the door at about 8am into the wonderfully fresh frosty and sunny clear day
14.5 miles and 2h12:27 later and I'm at work - avg 9:08 BPM avg 168 max 188.
2 slice of dry toast as wandering through the building to get my bag from OH and check with work if this am was ok. OH had taken my pasta tuna an sweetcorn which I munched through over the next hour post shower
Managed 5 hours actually at work today (not counting my callout) as I visited the pub at lunch. Only an OJ was had so almost 16 days off the booze I'm off to the pub then for a curry now Hopefully work dont phone
Saturday 30 Minutes Elliptical / BPM avg 142 / max 174 Decided it should be a X-traning day today as lots of running lately. This week is at 30 miles already - I only achieved that 3 times last year So - after much resistance from OH ("nothing to wear" "what about the clothes I tricked you into wearing last time" "I don't have socks" "buy some at the gym" "do I have trainers" "the ones I tricked you into last time?" "I'm hungry" "I need to go to the Post Office have something now" "think I've got flu" "shut up and get your trainers on" " ....... don't know where my gym pass is" "where did you leave it after last time?" "is this it?" "eh..., no - the gym changed owners since you were last there?" "must be this one" "right come on then" )
We went to the gym and did the 30 minutes elliptical thing with some laughing and competition as his distance overtook mine - esp as I was almost a minute ahead He wasn't impressed when I zoomed back past him But then I thought better of it and slowed down again
85 days and it'll be all over
Sunday This time it was OH's turn to demand we go to the gym! I thought he was joking till he turned up in the livingroom kit on doing up his trainer laces Thought I better support this so headed t the gym but I just did a bricsk Treadmill walkon various inclines for 15 minutes then some stretching. V tight calves and fancied a run later so reckoned that was enough.
2:30pm - 3.29 miles / 30:26 round Arthurs Seat with Pete in the wind. V enjoyable time to chat. 10:39 10:48 uphill then into the wind then he handed me the cars keys and told me to go zo I relaxed down the hill in 6:55. Was soo glad as I sat in his car an watched him as the rain and sleet started pelting down!
