Just got back from Rushcliffe 10k, very windy but no rain at first, not bad run.Started of very well then at 3k i got a bad stitch, at to slow down abit and hope it would go away. Got to 7k and new i would not get under 50 Min's at this pace, try ed to put my foot down for the next 2k then the stitch came back so looked at garmin at 9k 45:15 so try ed to get as close to 50 Min's as i could. Garmin time 50:06 all in all a good run apart from the stitch all other things felt great... avg 5:03 per k, avg hr 140 65% could not push very hard due to stitch. Don't know why i got it so very frustrated..the rain is coming down hard now, so i at lest i beat the rain

Have a think about your fluid intake before the race, sometimes HOW we runners drink before can cause/lead to stitches, Tennis players tend to sip little and often so as not to cause Air Bubbles within which inturn can help reduce the stitch problem

Also a large intake of fluid just before the race can lay a little heavy (if not sipped), as i always say we're all different and is only a view I take on my prep before a race

Stitch is a bugger Deano but great running all the same, only just outside of 50 minutes so well done.
I have a thing when getting stitch, all down to taking a deep intake of breath as one foot hits the floor, and then after 2 foot strikes of the floor, exhale hard as the opposite foot hits the floor. If my stitch is on the right...... then do the intake bit on the left foot. It works for me usually but idealy start doing it when you start to feel it coming on. Rapid changes in pace i.e, running fast downhill after a tough uphill bit often sets me off.

bad luck Deano - stitches can be a bugger! What works for me is to exhale every time the foot on the opposite side to the stitch hits the floor - seems to get rid of it pretty quickly, but then we're all different.
