What a great story Shaun and how you handled the situation. Perhaps you ought to get those lads out running with you, you are obviously a good role model.

Shaun.....just reread my post from yesterday.... I hope it didn't sound like I thought you may have picked a fight....it was more in response to your emotions being fired up.... ..
Ok I'll stop digging..... |

Shaun, thanks for sharing the experience with us. It's refreshing that their parents acted so responsibly. It's going to take a long time for you to wind down emotionally, I think running will help.

Claire - bless ya , I understood what you meant and you was right about my emotions.
my 1st born said the same or "brave but silly" to use her words what I witnessed was a young lad being used as a MULE for the goods being stolen and I felt for the lad really as it can be a slippery slope if its not put in check
so far its worked out well I have wondered if I'll face repercussions because of it I'll see what tonight brings BUT it seems the older boys are very remorseful of their actions AND I do now know their Dads too so thats a bonus

1st February 0845
10miles @70%WHR = 1hr 22mins 08secs
Yet another run I very nearly didnt get of bed for BUT glad I did as I really enjoyed it even though it was 2 laps of the village
during the 2nd lap the 70%WHR really kicked in and I felt comfy so much so i felt as though I could've gone on and done another lap at least
longest session I've run for a while and it felt good, no run related aches or pains apart from forgetting to use vaseline so i'm a little tender in a certain area

Good to hear your getting back in the groove with your longer sessions Shaun.
I reeled from the Flu over the new year and family health matters. It took me some time to coax myself back to fitness, but I feel stronger over the last two weeks.
Good luck at Stamford incidentally1

2nd February 0500
5miles @70%WHR = 43mins 13secs
early run in lots of snow, good session although HR was very high due to very slippery roads/paths, if this remains for tomorrow it maybe a rest day (which mondays should be for me anyhoo)
no run related aches or pains BUT had one or two VERY close moments where i could've twisted or slipped over

3rd February REST (Enforced due to weather)
4th February 0500
5miles @70%WHR = 40mins 26secs
just below target HR which felt good, weather conditions still quite bad in remote places especially with black ice
good session before work no run related aches or pains

Claire - I'm hoping i'm ready for Stamford , every time I go over 10miles my legs feel fine and wanna push on so I'm really ticking over at the moment but may have a couple of stiffer sessions (more than 5miles)distance wise over the weekend and see how things pan out

5th February - Enforced rest day due to heavy snow showers and ice
6th February 0800
10miles @70%WHR = 1hr 24mins 27secs
still lots of snow/ice/slush in remote areas of this run (2 laps of village) good session overall and bang on 70%WHR Average throughout, really enjoyed this run and yet again I could've gone on and done more miles
no run related aches or pains and remembered to apply Vaseline this time before heading out the door

What proportion of speedwork are you doing in your marathon training ?
I intend to spend some time revisiting my plan this weekend and make sure there is enough quality..... I so love running that I like lots of miles but need more speedwork I fear |

Claire - I dont set any targets for speed work, I have 3 types of training 70%WHR (most sessions),70%-85%WHR(Hills or speed work) & Fartlek sessions
if I run twice a day one of the sessions will be 70%-85%WHR, I'm quite an Ad-Hoc type trainer really as I go with how I feel on the day
I also use a Elliptical X-Trainer, which I'm going to dust off this week for some low impact and upper body evening work outs

7th February 0900
10miles @70%WHR = 1hr 21mins 36secs
Another 2 laps of the village as some of the remote country roads are still covered in snow
Legs felt strong and responsive, I even found myself having to speed up to stay within HR target and for very little extra effort i was soon running well under 8m/m
A great session with no run related aches or pains, tomorrow I may throw an extra lap in just to see how my legs respond, depending on the weather I may venture out into the countryside
Really begining to look forward to Stamford 30K now
