Mon 7th Sept: rest - moved into new office on Thames Valley Park just outside Reading, just along from Microsoft. Lovely place...
Tue 8th Sept - 5.01 miles - 00:49:29 - 9:53 - avg hr 76%WHR/160bpm Yesterday I joined the David Lloyd gym across the road from my office and today I set out from there for a run along the towpath, east through Sonning and towards Shiplake. The towpath here starts off as a really good surface just near the TVP but past Sonning turns into a much more technical run. Glad I wore my new Inov-8 Roclite 285s for the first time.. these are the shoes I plan to wear during all the off road races to come this autumn. I hadn't realised that it had got so warm today but that soon became apparent - very humid by the river and I was sweating buckets. My HR was high although I didn't feel massively hot. Upon getting back I checked the temperature - about 26 degrees C.

Got home last night feeling tired and really hungry. That quickly developed into just feeling a bit crap, so I had an early night. This morning I've got that horrible feeling that you get just when you're coming down with a cold or man flu or something - no headaches or sniffles as such yet but totally drained and a bit shivery. So, no run today and I'm on the beechams.
Hope the footy's good tonight!

Get your man flu out the way now!
I am keeping an eye on the RNR team, slightest niggle/cough or sneeze and I will be nagging!

| just a bit of a lurgy.. I've had a couple of days rest and whilst I'm still feeling a bit dodgy, I'm on the mend. I'm planning a 6 miler at lunchtime today and hopefully I'll be ok for the Wooburn 10k on Sunday. |

Would it not be better to rest up and make sure you are completely recovered? Sometimes we just have to give in and rest.

agree with Dips, sometimes an enforced rest can aid fitness been there got the T-shirt having tried to run when under the weather then end up feeling worse or struggle to get back into right frame of mind to run

Dips, Shaun.. If it had been any other race, I would have done just that. However, this has become a bit of a family affair, with my brother in law Pete and his missus (and me) running the 10k, my three kids running the kids race (my eldest came 4th) and Pete's youngest running the 3k and my missus on looking after 6 kids duty! Oh, and then a BBQ afterwards.
Anyway, didn't sleep well last night, stomach feeling a bit rough, felt woozy this morning but was very pleased to look out of the window and find it overcast and cool. We arrived 15 mins before the start, I queued for the loo and then it was time to start..
Sun 13th Sept - Wooburn Park 10k - 00:47:23 - 7:35m/m - avg hr 85%WHR/171bpm Stinker of a hill in the first km which gets steeper halfway up it, then mostly flat/undulating and a mix of road and gravelly farm roads and then down the hill at the end. Had a couple of woozy moments on the way round but hung on in there and finished over 3 minutes faster than last year.
km splits: 6:03, 4:32, 4:33, 4:37, 4:52, 4:31, 4:47, 4:46, 4:40, 3:51
I'll definitely have a few days rest over the coming week and get myself ready for the RNR.
