Dips.. I have looked at Hals stuff and he recommends a 2-3 hour run (so up to 18 miles or so) the week before the 2nd mara - I'm certainly not planning on that, but I do want to get at least one good long run in during the next few weeks. If I do Marlborough, it'll be as a training run, and at that sort of pace.

HW - we may be able to navigate it together!

Tue 5th May - 3.81m - 00:35:32 - 09:20 - avg hr 74%WHR/156bpm
nice run in the sun - knees a bit sore after this so I'll switch back to my Asics for a bit.

Wed 6th May - 4.02m - 00:36:57 - 09:11 - avg hr 76%WHR/158bpm
hilly, mixed terrain route and very windy too. Tried out my new shorts - v good - http://aluaka.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~2022.asp

HR has generally been slightly high since London - I guess that means I'm still recovering from that somewhat.

you'd be correct. I seem to recall my HR was high after my first marathon. It takes a while to properly recover, even though you might feel fine.

Rest day today - I had a phonecall from my boss (in the US) last night just as I was off to bed asking me to take over some stuff at 5am.. beats being up all night, but I'm really not built for early starts like that, especially after less than 6 hours sleep. So.. probably too much coffee today and no running. The joys of being on call! I'm planning a longish run tomorrow, rest on Sat and then the Marlow 5 on Sunday.

Yesterday it was announced that my company is to be acquired by a (much larger) competitor.. interesting times! Nothing's likely to happen for a good few months whilst the merger goes through, but things could be changing a lot later this year.

Matt, as hard as it may be try and keep the majority your runs below 70% from now until Edinburgh. It may seem painfully slow but believe me you will get far more benefit from it at this stage and it will have you arriving at Edinburgh in far better shape.

I am hoping for big things from you at Edinbugh mate and I think with the right conditions you will be suprised just how much easier it will be than London.

In't running brilliant.

Mark - sadly I missed the Hellrunner as I was in Sydney. I did the Turbo-X jobbies though - v good fun. You thinking of entering this year?

Nick - thanks for the advice... I do need to slow down more at the moment to get under 70% WHR and I plan on doing that on my longer runs from now on.. I've just been running at the same sort of pace that was 70%WHR before London, but my HR has been higher recently. That said, I have a 5 mile race this Sunday and a 10K a week on Tuesday

call me weird/mad/dopey...... but yes.......looks hellish.....need to check the dates proper but as its a 1100 start and on the train line a 95% chance of doing it ......not cheap but then again not too expensive......

Good luck with work too. We have been in a state of flux for a year now and even though I now know my job title, I don't know much else!

Got home at 7pm and went straight out for what was intended to be a 10 mile LSR-type run.. I ended up cutting it short due to the failing light.

Fri 8th May - 8.65m - 01:29:44 - 10:22 - avg hr 70%WHR/150bpm
Nick's advice was on my mind so I paid attention to HR over pace.. I'm quite shocked how slow I've had to go compared to normal in order to stay at 70%WHR.. I do hope that settles down again soon.

Got home to find a voicemail from the US and I've spent most of the rest of the evening on the phone to Casablanca.. a conf call between a french speaking north african and a texan who don't understand each other and me acting as interpreter... fun, fun. Going to grab some kip now whilst I can although I think I'll be up again soon. The joys of being on call!

Ggggrrrr at the on call - I can definitely sympathise. Some of ours involved America and India and the translation can be interesting

Yep - take it easy an look after yourself till Edinburgh cos as you know - all your hard work is done already. Just tick over an let your body forgive you before the demands of Edinburgh are thrust upon it
