Fri 17th April 4.16m- 00:37:32 - 09:01 - avg hr 156bpm/74% WHR Went out with a work colleague for this - nice and easy but then after just under 3 miles he said he was heading back on a shorter route.. I put my foot down, did a mile more than him and got back at the same time
Sun 19th April 8.03m- 01:15:28 - 09:24 - avg hr 154bpm/73% WHR Last LSRish run before FLM. Only a measly 8 miles but I seemed to struggle for the first 5 - couldn't find my rhythm and all that. Then I sped up a little and it all fell into place. Knees a bit sore too - must do lots of stretching this week!

Good luck for the FLM Matt! Not long now.
I'm already getting itchy feet for Abingdon and that isn't until October

Thanks LBM.. itchy feet doesn't even come close :)
Trying to put some thoughts into words...
It's 6 days until the FLM, my first marathon. It's been, as they say, a journey.
I started my training plan the week before Christmas. This is the first time I've ever really used a training plan. I've done plenty of 10k races before, and the odd 10 miler and half mara, but I've never really focused my training on anything in particular or followed a plan.
Last year, between June and the end of the year, I ran just over 300 miles. This year so far, I've run over 400 already. I've really enjoyed my training, especially when the miles started to ramp up to over 40 miles a week and those 20 mile LSRs. I've had some knee problems along the way which I now understand better, both how it's caused and how to prevent it, thanks to my sports therapist - and that's new too; now I can say I have a sports therapist
My wife and kids have been fantastic. They've had to get used to me running more at weekends, often being out for hours at a time and then coming back tired and sometimes achy. And then when I couldn't run for whatever reason (or sometimes just in the mornings before running), I'd occasionally get in a grump of the sort that can only be sorted by going for a good run. Recently, whilst I was out on a long run, they made me a massive "Good luck Daddy" banner, decorated with the kids hand and foot prints and pictures cut out from back issues of RW I need to take a photo of that and put it up..
In the last month I've got massive new PBs at 10 miles and in the half mara and I've realised that I've become a stronger and faster runner. I started my mara training aiming to finish in under 4, so I was targetting a 9m/m pace. Given my recent times, I'm thinking I can do better than that... perhaps closer to 8:30m/m. That said, it's my first mara and I don't want to blow up after 20 miles! Really not sure what to do.
I feel incredibly lucky and thankful for a number of things - getting a place in the FLM, my health, this incredible club which offers so much support, advice and laughs and most of all the support of my wonderful family.
This is going to be a great week - a couple of short gentle runs, expo, loads of pasta and the marathon. There's a fair chance that it could be a tad emotional

I'm sure you've heard it before (don't do as I do - do as I say ) but a conservative start will make the whole experience very much more enjoyable.

I always have a run like this a week or so before the start, and I always fret and yet things always fall into place on the day. So don't worry, it'll all be fine.
But I would echo what Dave said - start steadily. Don't worry if you feel a bit sluggish miles 3,4 and 5. You'll get through it. The worst thing you can do is panic and either speed up to compensate, or think you've blown it already. You haven't, so just relax, enjoy it (the stretch from 5 to 8 is fun) and before you know it you'll be running really well.
That said, from the sound of things your training has been so good that you'll blitz the whole thing, grinning madly for 26 miles and you'll wonder what I was warning you about....

Whilst I'd rather it wasn't that warm I'm just glad the winds have dropped. I'll take warm and still over mild and blowing a gale (they were forecasting 30 mile an hour winds last week ).
On the plus side, warm weather means more spectators and they won't be holding umbrellas (which makes clapping tricky).
Also, the weather for the FLM has been:
2004 - mild and very wet 2005 - very warm 2006 - cold and very wet 2007 - hot 2008 - cool and and times very very wet
With 2009 looking like it'll be warm, thus continuing the sequence, all you 'rain-lovers' should get signed up for 2010

Matt, you are going to have a great time, doing FLM last year was one of the best experiences of my life.
Just make sure you take in some of the atmosphere but don't get too excited.
You will love it.
