Hi everyone
Just dropped in to introduce myself.
Brief Running History:- I used to enter a few 10k's/half marathons up to about 15 years ago and achieved at best a sub 40 10k - 39m 30 approx) and completed the BUPA half marathon in Birmingham way back then in around 1 hr 35/7. However, following this I was unable to train as regularly as I'd have liked, which meant it wasn't realistic to enter races any more. That is until now, but my interest had never waned.
I've been training regularly now for over 6 months and would describe myself as a very self motivated runner, who has avoided clubs until now, but uknetrunner seems to be a great idea.
I intend to run a selection of races now I'm back in the groove(including 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathons) and have set myself an ambitious target of under 3 hrs 15 mins for my first marathon. As stated I rekindled my interest in running about 6 months ago and have been surprised at my progress.
My very first race back in the groove was the Larkin Gowen City of Norwich Half Marathon, which I completed in 1 hr 33 mins 03 secs (Chip time) and finished 12th in my category (MV45), so obviously I'm very happy with my first race :-)
I'd like to thank member Wickid D and his wife Jen, who Gill and I met on the day, as they introduced me to the forum and UKnetrunner.
Once again, hi to all members and its good to be onboard!
Cheers

Welcome aboard.
There will be a large gathering of us at the Not The Roman 9 in January. A good opportunity to meet up if you can make it.

Hi Ian, welcome aboard the good ship uknetrunner
That's a cracking time for your first race back after some time off running - you seem to be well on track for you 3:15 target. You'll find plenty of friendly advice and support here on the forum. I hope to see you at a race sometime soon. If you want to meet lots of clubbies at once, they'll be 33 of us at Not the Roman IX near Stratford in January
e2a: Great minds eh Dips?

Thanks HelenC & Dips
It's good to be on board Thanks for the links too. Incidentally, when you say Stratford, do you mean Stratford-upon Avon (which is local for me) or Stratford, London?
Hope to meet you soon
Cheers

Thanks Stephen, that's ideal for me. It's 20 mins away
I'm waiting for my membership of uknetrunner to be finalised, so I guess I should wait until it's done before entering the race as an affilaiated runner. Just hope I'm not too late. It looks like they're still accepting online entries at the moment via runners world though.
Hopefully, I will see you all at Stratford |

just enter - I think Alan is having problems with e-mail at the moment so you may not here from him too quickly. And England Athletics are pretty slow at getting the membership cards out anyway.
A 34th UKNR for the NTRIX! It's going to be one hell of a turnout |

Would you suggest entering as an affiliate, despite not having membership confirmed yet Stephen? Also, if I enter as a non-affliate, will this race not be considered as a qualifying race for stats within uknetrunner?
Thanks |

Enter as an affiliate. If you've paid up, you're a member
Btw, welcome - and bloody heck that's a good comeback time!

| I agree with Matt, enter as affiliate. As I said, it'll be a while before England Athletics get your membership number to you. |

Thanks guys - will do
I have the Wymondham 10k in Norwich on New Years Day too. That will be interesting
Incidentally, runnersworld asks for team name on online booking. Is that uknetrunner, UKNR etc. I'm new to all this and don't want to screw it up. Thanks |

I usually put UKnetrunner
Race organisers usually make their own version of the club name though |

Oops! Sorry to confuse you, I'd fogotton there was more than one Stratford .
There's a thread on the race over in events. With 34 runners, we might just outnumber Stratford-upon-Avon AC in their own backyard. See you there
