Been rejected this year but can't complain after running it as my first last year. I will be doing Edinburgh next year but the 2 races do not compare in my opinion. Edinburgh for me will again be a PB effort but London really was just get round and enjoy the occasion, and boy did I enjoy it.
Without doubt it was one of the best experiences of my life and I will at least go down to watch this year having had a tatse of teh atmosphere. GNR on the other hand I thought was just okay. I loved the run but that was purely due to the company I was keeping on a steady plod round, the race itself I thought was average and tries to cater for far too many people than logistically sensible. |

Mostly doing triathlons these days, I like the variety in training I guess.
Recently competed in a local 10k and came 25th overall, and second V40 male in a time of 44:09! Quite a slow course, lots of twists and turns but very pleased with that time - winning time was 36:27 with 196 people competing.
Will need to ramp up the running distance as longest run the last 6 months has been 8 miles.

Thanks, I intend to slowly build up over the next few months before starting on a typical 18 week training programme. Have entered a few local events over the next few months to keep me motivated and to be honest I am looking forward to an Autumn/Winter of running that may change though!

Alan,
When will you know how many club places have been allocated to UKnetrunner and when would you require rejection notes posting to you ?
I am asking on behalf of Jayne Chappell as she cant access the site due to login problems
Thanks,
Martin.

I am sure Alan will post a confirmation but if the membership numbers on the front page are correct than we will be eligible for 3 places. However, I don't think the number reflects those who do not renew...which reminds me...isn't my membership due about now Alan?
Simplified we are entitled to 1 place and then an extra place per 50 above 50! So 1-49 members 1 place, 50-99 2 places etc.
I sent a reminder to Alan last week about applying for the places as I was doing the same for my 'other' club.
I think it would be a good thing if we can hold the draw sooner rather than later as it then gives those who don't get in time to look at Charity places or other marathons. However, that is my own opinion not the committee as a whole...before I get chastised!

As much as I want to run a the FLM, I intend not to enter the club ballot as I have now entered the Paris Marathon......no way do I intend to run 2 marathons so close!
So the odds will be slightly better for those who will enter the ballot!

And I agreed over a Peroni that I will NOT be running either so won't be investing. After 7 years on the bounce I think it is time to give someone else more of a chance.

Re: Flora London Marathon 2009,
in my capacity as Club Secretary, I have sent off the letter in application of club places today (well before the 21st November cut off date).
Hopefully we will have confirmation of the number of places the club will receive shortly.
The committee will need to discuss qualifying criteria for the places - personally I think we will need to be moving to a position of trust that people have been declined for places - rather than obtaining proof (rejection letters) as we have done in previous years - especially now that there are online & off-line entry methods.
I want to be in a position to allocate places as quickly as possible, so that the "lucky" winners of the club places are in a position to set out their training schedule.
We currently have 102 first claim members registered ..... don't know if this will entitle the club to 2 or 3 places? Where is the criteria?
Hope the above clarifies.

Perhaps more significant is that some charities have already closed, or are closing this week, their charity place application process. It would be good for those who don't get a place through the club to know if they need to get cracking on getting a charity place, or entering other races, if that is what they are going to do.
Would it be possible to draw up a list of people and say they will be assigned the places in the following order etc? That way, if you are first in the list you know you have a place, 2nd seems likely, 3rd is a maybe, 4th onwards is definitely not etc etc. If we don't hear back until 21st November before acting then that may be too late for some.

The club places are decided by a draw so that everyone has a fair chance. The entries are sent out by the organisers fairly swiftly. I applied for BHRS (my local club) places last Friday and will be able to give an idication of turn around time soon I expect. 21 Nov is the last day clubs can apply thats all.
I appreciate that charities are closing although I am always happy to help source a place for you. I found charities for a couple of my girls last year very late in the day. If you are relying on a charity place if you are not successful in the draw...it would be advisable that you grabbed a place and then simply handed it back if a club place comes up.
Alternatively...join UKnet at Edinburgh.

Hi Dips
I hadn't realised that they would deal with it quickly - I imagined if it took them four months to do the ballot they would take a month or so at least to do the club places. In that case there is probably less urgency.
I realise our places are done by random draw - that's what I meant by 'draw up a list' but can see why that may have been ambiguous. My thought was whether we could pre-empt knowing how many places we had so that those that weren't randomly selected in the first few by Alan could make other plans.
Thanks for the offer of help finding charity places but Zo and I were hoping to run together this year (damn the pesky ballot for not letting either of us in), so it's unlikely that we'll be looking at charity place as to raise over the £3000 (£4000 in some instances) they will want for two places is probably beyond us. I just wanted to make sure that those who were thinking of getting a charity spot were aware that they seem to me to be sorting themselves out considerably earlier this year than in previous years and they should seemingly act now to avoid disappointment.
