DONT MENTION JADE GOODY........ IVE JUST EATEN. Will never forget the look on Gordon Ramsays face as they stood being interviewed together before 2007 marathon. However i hope she makes a speedy recovery, no one deserves to go through what she is at the moment.
I GOT REJECTED!! hey ho, will try the club ballot next. i had a sneaky peak at charity places (though i dont agree with them as such, people should run for charity and raise what they can if thats what they want, not made to raise certain amounts in return for a place) 2 of them wanted you to guarentee to raise £1900!!!!!
Good to see a variety of views on certain races i.e Alan hating GNR and yet I love it. Lets face it, if we all liked exactly the same thing/races etc, how boring life would be.
Was looking at Edinburgh again for 2009....... £40!!!! OUCH.

I've never done a marathon and am not interested in doing one at the moment but I know that when I do decide to I both want it to be a big one for the expereince and would need it to be a big one for the atmosphere to get me round. But everyone is different and I have friends who thrive in quieter races with scenery to look at.

In view of some comments, I feel I should point out the obvious, i.e. I was merely expressing my personal opinion which I thought I was as entitled as anyone else to do on this Forum. It would appear not - constructive responses are always welcome, sarcasm is unhelpful.
I was writing from personal experience having supported friends at FLM long before I ran my first marathon. I have worked on the water stations twice and I ran it last year. My first mara was big city – Washington – and I have since run Rotterdam, Dublin and Edinburgh – all of which I would recommend to anyone. I think this experience entitles me to express an “educated” point of view on big city marathons.
I would also say that watching an overcrowded event – the GNR – on TV was what spurred me to run further than 10ks so I understand the lure of the big event.

You are of course entitled to express an opinion but there are ways to go about expressing opinions like those, to people who are obviously disappointed - your approach was, in my opinion, not the way to go about it.
And, if you had posted a constructive comment (rather than a fairly scathing attack on our decision to enter and our disappoitment at being rejected) in the first place you may have got a constructive response from me.
But, ho hum, each to their own I guess....

Hang on Pete, deep breaths please. Personally, I don't agree with LB's view on FLM, but do you think you're potentially over-reacting a little....

This is an internet forum and as we all know, it is not always easy to express the point you're trying to convey in written form compared to face to face. Equally, it is easy to misunderstand the nature of someone's post. LB is entitled to her opinion and whilst "uptight" is probably the wrong word to use, I've certainly seen alot more inflammatory posts on t'interweb. Additionally, the use of the and "cat amongst pigeons" indicates some kind of acknowledgement that her views will not be shared. I took this as more of a light-hearted jibe at FLM rather than a scathing attack on those of us who like FLM and those disappointed at receiving a "rejected" magazine.
That's about as involved as I want to get in that particular argument and I'm merely trying to calm things down. There's no need for any hostility between any of us because we all know LB is wrong |

Congrats Steve.
To add to the rejections, Mrs Price got her third consecutive rejection today. It's getting close to that magic number 5 and she's going to have to start running at some point! |

Wow, it's all go on here today! Congats to those who got in I'm jealous but pleased for you. It's funny how we all love some races and hate others. I for one will never run the gnr again, had a Bad experience but love other large scale races Great manchester run. London was my first marathon and I was elated at the end. The organization is great and a always there are issues when there are that number of people. I will do london again when I get a place as I owe one as I did it when it was really hot and can go quicker. I thennthink I will want to do something else.
Its dissapointing not to get in but isn't that what adds to excitement is the whole process.
Looking forward to the club ballot But not sure other half is she was happy when I got my rejection.
Good luck to all that get in and there is always next year.

Fair enough and point taken, but in the mood I was in this morning it didn't seem like a light-hearted jibe and if what your typing, on a potentially sensitive issue, may be misconstrued then maybe you should find another way to say it (or don't say it at all).
Anywho, that's probably enough from me on the subject.
I hope everyone who is running this weekend (and it seems like a busy one for everyone) has a good time and does a good time. Let's keep our fingers crossed for some half-decent weather....
