got my reject fleece - no big REJECT on the back but they are like tents without poles. Was my first time in the ballot so not surprised.
Edinburgh anyone?

Possible bad news - I have just had a Post Office card pushed through the door by a neighbour for a package too large for the letter box!.....Never mind there is always the club ballot!..........or Edinburgh!

I am confused, does everyone that gets refused get a fleece? Does your money get taken or do you only pay if you get a place? I haven't entered, just wondered.

You can choose to give your entry fee to charity if you don't get in. If you do that you get a fleece.

OK I'll do my usual "cat amongst pigeons" !! Why oh why do you all have to get so uptight about a nasty overcrowded, noisy, overrated, over-priced run when there are so many other smaller maras that are more friendly, more scenic - and just about more everything nice !!

At heart I know the reason I started running was the dream to take part in the London Marathon ...... and I did it!
The first time was fantastic, second time good, third time annoying - so for me London is an event I will always have fond (and not so fond) memories of - but am unlikely to do again.
After achieving the dream of running London - you do realise that other events - the smaller, more scenic, more friendly events do have more to offer - and that is when you know you are a real runner!
For me now - I am looking forward to the next RNR ..... marathons have lost their spark .... getting pb's (although it would be nice) is no longer important (age isn't on my side!) - I run for the enjoyment now.
And being in a club with you guys makes that so much more achievable!
For those doing London - enjoy it.
For those rejected - enjoy your tent like fleeces (I have 2!) and consider the opportunity of the club ballot - and the excitment that your London dream is still alive!

Because that's your opinion. In my opinion it is the best race I have ever done, and will ever do. If you don't understand why it is so good then i pity your failure to understand how taking part can mean so much to so many. I am gutted at not getting a place, and comments like that is just what i wanted this morning(!) Thanks very much....

Nothing like FLM to raise such wide-ranging opinions!
I do feel for those who were looking forward to taking part and getting the rejection letters - after a long wait - I can remember the experience as not being nice (a little like being an HBOS employee at the moment?)
Pete: club places remember ..... historically the odds of getting a club place have been around 1 in 4 ..... which aint bad! And although we have an increased membership, desire to run marathons in many of our runners is not great.

Pete: You ARE a real runner ..... I was just relating to my own personal experience - that London was an almighty dream that I NEVER expected to achieve - and is a proud fact that I have finished it not just once but 3 times.
I just feel that because I STILL want to run and don't need to do London again (personally) I feel that I am a runner rather than someone chasing a dream.
Your experience of London is clearly more special to you than it has become to me.
That's the beauty of us all being individuals! And being able to share our own views and opinions.

Thank you, that would be nice, but I think it's so good I'd rather the place went to someone who had never run there before and wanted to experience it for the first time. If there's no takers I'll bite your hand off, but I wouldn't want to deprive anyone else of the opportunity.

The club place(s) have previously been offered in ballot to those people who want a place (first timers or not) and have entered the official ballot but been rejected.
A nice fair system - but please don't stand back to allow those who haven't run it before get a place - there may not be any first timers wanting a place in the ballot (and you wouldn't feel good I'm sure if the place(s) went to a fellow club member who, like yourself, has run it before.
I will need to contact the committee to agree the rules for this year's ballot - as now that the online / postal ballot system is in place we may need to revise who the places are available (as touched on in the forums earlier this year).
