I can gain guaranteed entry to FLM through either Good For Age (2:47 marathon) or Championship (1:14:58 half marathon).

My wife (who doesn't run) has applied for FLM through the ballot, this is her third attempt. I've said that if she gets accepted, I will run with her. I wasn't planning on running FLM next year but could enter as I know I'm guaranteed a spot. Obviously I'd be on a different start to my wife so would have to wait for her somewhere in the first mile or so. I'd then finish the race much slower than what the organiser might expect.

Is this a bit naughty? I'm not taking a place away from anyone else, but those guaranteed entries are partly to regulate the numbers of finishers in certain time periods.

She may not get in this year, but will do when she's got her 5 rejections. When she does, I'd love to run it with her.

I can't see why you can't do that ..... they can't force you to run at a pace you are capable of.

I know the places are guaranteed as they want a bunch of elite runners such as yourself to make the event better quality - but I don't think you'll find anyhting in the rules saying that an elite runner cannot run at a pace that they choose to run.

It would mean of course that yo uwould have to obtain a qualifying time for the 2010 London Marathon in another marathon next year!

Cheers Alan

you can get a championship place from a half marathon time under 1:15 so I should still be okay with that.

GFA entry has to be in before the ballot results are announced so if I do it I may end up starting on the champinship start. I'd prefer to be on the GFA start to do this though so I don't stand out as much(championship runners have a number on the front & back)

My personal thought, for what it is worth, is its a bit naff and to start with the champs then stop up the road! So better to go from the GFA gang and meet at mile one or something...there are some naff celeb runners at the green start anyway so you wouldn't stand out....you could always dress up as a deep sea diver

Whos to say stephen that you just have a bad race and have to stop and it just so happens that when you feel like getting going again, it just so happens that your wife is coming along side you

I agree with Dips, it would look a bit wierd to be in with the fast runners and then go jogging off! Would they have a way of knowing if you sneak into your wifes pen? I reckon you should go with the fancy address idea and you could raise a load for charity....I promise you a tenna if you wear a pink tutu

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm certainly not going to be doing it fancy dress, those people must be mental. I could always enter GFA and then if I decide not to run it's only £30 I guess.

I could always do it as a "training run" if Mrs P gets rejected. I'm pretty certain though that I don't want to race a marathon until the end of 2009 at the earliest.
