To confuse the issue, I am a dodgeball wizard, but do not want to run FLM.

| Hi Alan, I rang the marathon people and they assure me that my entry did get to them. Reference the turned down 5 times in a row, the automatic entry is apparently on the sixth year. Thanks for your help Peter |

I wonder what this system will do to the take up of entries. as I recall (and my memory could be very dodgy), around 45,000 places are offered each year, but only around 35,000 numbers are actually collected, so nearly 20% of places do not get taken up. Even allowing for deferred entries etc, this is a lot of people who have changed their minds.
There are going to be many people on sunday who watched the race, thought 'I can do that' and registered online on a whim, then will change their mind long before next April. The risk is that the drop-out rate will be much higher than in previous years, leading to even fewer starters.
I wonder if FLM have factored that into the number of places they end up issuing.... or an I just too cynical

| I agree Laura. The problem is, FLM on the tellybox makes a marathon seem like an easy challenge. We all know it isn't. |

I had the same thought as Laura about people entering on a whim, and then thinking better of it. I think online entry is fine, but they should have opened the entry system during August as usual.
Anyway, I got me entry in on Monday, so my fingers will be crossed for the next 6 months.

I have to agree with Al about the club places and a ballet system, but after doing my one and only london, I will not be entering.

I am in for the 2009 race - I deferred last year, sent in my 'injured or ill' application in June and my cheque has been cashed. Never done London before so am looking forward to the experience even though I normally enjoy low key local races to mass participation ones.
Never been very good at marathons but at least I have plenty of time to prepare

I deferred too - but can't remember how much or from which account i wrote the cheque so have no idea if it's been cashed.

I've managed to get in the ballot for this. Fingers crossed I get in come October.
