ohh Dips! That not good...
Can I get bonus points for a personal worst?
and DON'T even suggest taking points off!!
Onwards and upwards, or onwards and downwards.. guess both apply :) |

No doubt I will get slapped into place again but...following on from Stephen's query...according to the Calculator I should have got 6 points for last week's 5k PB and I only ended up being given 3.
So what am I doing wrong this time?

Dips,
You did get 6 points for your PB (well done).
However your aggregate score has only gone up 3 points, because your new 6 points at 5k has displaced another previously scored race where you had been awarded 3 points (the Grand Prix being based on a maximum of 2 best scores per race length band, up to a maximum of 4 race bands,i.e. max of 8 races per annum).
Don't worry if any subsequent races you run are at a lower value than you've already got, the computer is generous and won't deduct points!!!

Thanks Crocked..I knew there was a reason...just couldn't work out the sensible one....but it now makes complete sense.

Im sure that the answer is that I have done something stupid like put my time in as 10 hours or something but my time from Sunday hasnt been updated on the grand prix yet. No worries if someone hasnt had time to do it yet but just wanted to rule out that it wasn't me getting something wrong

Can anyone explain what it means on my grand prix score when it says:
Races 6 Qualifying races 3
What makes a race a qualifying race?

I think it indicates the number of races you have completed at different distances that qualify you for Group 1 next year. E.g. you may have done a 5k, 2 10ks, and 3 half marathons, and that would show as 3 qualifying races. Does that make sense?

Ahhhhh yes, so do I have to do 4 qualifying races to qualify for group 1 next year? one 5k or 5 miler, one 10k or 12k, one 10 miler and one half or full marathon?
I dont think I want to be in group one, Im running my a**e off and am still only half way down group 2!

The trouble is Krissie ...... and the reason for having a group 2 - is that if newcomers went straight into group 1, as the first seasons showed, they will raise their game far quicker and monopolise the Grand Prix - hence the reason newbies start in Group 2 - to build an appropriate benchmarking handicap rather than have a benchmark which may be their first ever race.
All the Grand Prix rules are online on the club website.
To gain promotion to Group 1, or stay in Group 1 you need to run in 3 categories from:-
1) 5K or 5 Mile 2) 10K or 12k 3) 10 Mile 4) Half Marathon or longer
So , for example if you did a 5k, 10k and half marathon during the calendar year - you will be promoted or remain in Group 1.
If you stick to 1 distance (eg 10k) you will only have achieved 1 qualifying distance and thus get relegated from Group 1 or remain in Group 2 - hence the reason why I was relegated from Group 1 last year as I didn't do any races from 1) or 3) above.
Hope that makes sense.

Very much makes sense thank you. Looks like I will be in group one next year then as I have already done the 3 distances.

This is my first post, folks so here goes!
Yep, Krissie it looks like we'll both be in Group 1 next season now cos I completed my first 10 miler on Sunday.
When I've won Group 2, I'll be a formality anyway!!
