As possibly the oldest wrinkley in the club, I wouldn't want any further concessions made to my infirmity. I think the present system has it about right.
I know I could get better times, I would just need to do more training but I'm not sufficiently motivated. I'm happy doing what I do. I was very pleased last year with 3rd place and I'm hoping to hold on to a top ten place for this year (watch out in 2009).
Remember, we old timers have the opportunity to set new PBs every 5 years no matter how slowly we run. Stephen and Krissie have a long wait before they can enjoy that little advantage.
Thanks for thinking of us anyway...............nurse, nurse I think I've had a little accident.

Now that is an interesting idea. Having just entered F45 category, does that mean I get to claim a PB for every distance again? What do others do in the Grand Prix? |

Thats one good thing for me next year..I get to move up a Category and leave all those young 45-49 year olds to fight it out.

I have no idea how you would calculate it, but it seems a shame that the difficulty of the race can't be factored in. For example, 3:30 round the flat FLM course gets the same points as 3:30 round the Snowdonia Marathon. Those that like more difficult courses, or live in a more hilly part of the country, seem to be at a bit of a disadvantage.

Just think how many points we would get for The Grizzly Mark ?!!! Matt and I would get loads for Turbo-X too. Oh the possibilities are endless.
Bill - I think we are about neck-and-neck as the wrinklies and totally agree with your comment "I know I could get better times, I would just need to do more training but I'm not sufficiently motivated. I'm happy doing what I do."

Hence my poor showing in the GP this year. Ask me if id swap to a slower time for a half last year for a better banding (yes i admit to having a bit of a chunter bout it at the time).... id answer no. Whilst ive had a carp GP..... being band 5 has helped me to believe there is life in the old dog yet and still pushes me on. Look at your best performance of the year...... match it with the banding table and youll have a rough idea of where youll be at for 2009. Does that make sense??
So by virtue of attaining a time of 40:08 for my best 5 mile race in June, I'll jump to band 14 for next year which will be a real test for me to stay competitive at that level.
That was my best time for a race (by a country mile) and means that next year will be a tough GP year for me.

Matt T - Next year is gonna be a VERY TOUGH one for me after this year BUT I'm already planning for it in my head, as to ways I can improve or if I can, I'm gonna give it a real good go

Of course, I take your points fully Smout and Wicked.
Probably explains why the points are much more at a premium in Group 1, as people are in their second years and those that have been promoted have progressed to higher levels of difficulty.
I'm planning in advance now, as well, the weight loss is a big part of that for me, as is the core training I'm now starting to do as well
