Gin Pit 5M (Tyldesley) 11/10/09
Hard surface trail run but a bit pudddled in the rain. I didn't feel particularly fast so was surprised by a 13 second pb improvement. Must have been the general high standard of other runners at the back of the field pulling me round.

University of Birmingham 5K 18/10/09
Tackled this one in the same way as previous 2 years - gentle cycle in (13ish miles), do the race and cycle home via a lunch spot. This year the lunch spot was a great canal side cafe - excellent roast beef bagette.
Actually the race wasn't bad eirther. Definitely a pb and lots faster than previously on this slightly hilly course.

Winter Hills & Spills 10K (formerly Wedgnock Winter Mud & Mayhem) Series, Race No1. 07/11/09
Small field of just over sixty at this fairly remote new venue south of Stratford-on-Avon. Beautiful views, but not many races where the middle pack is almost walking less that 10 minutes from the start! It was a killer hill. Cold sunny and tough, but well enjoyed.

You certainly had a beautiful morning for it Mike. Sounds like it was a real toughie though.

This time last weeek I was in bed with a very bad throat etc which eventually responded to the compulsory Tamiflu tablets.
Still a bit chesty and havn't done any training as a consequence, except managed 90 minutes of slow road work last night.
Not proper preparation for a 10K race tommorrow but I've pre-entered so will no doubt turn out. Perhaps the pb will have to wait till the following week though.

Mike, I know it must be frustrating, but I think I'd be questioning the wisdom of racing so soon after Flu. You don't want to crock yourself for weeks to come. If you're still chesty I certainly wouldn't run.

Get well Mike! There'll always be another race around the corner.

Shakespere Raceway 10K 21/11/09

Just because its flat doesn't mean its good - its a poor course really.

Slower tham when I did the same in March but I tried to tell myself not to push it. In truth I went round as fast as my body was willing to go. Ran the first half with an old friend at a reasonable pace but slowed down a fair bit after that, hence nothing special but good enough as a training run to get me back into it.

Surprised you were there given recent Flu Mike, but sorry I missed you anyway.

Agreed about the course. It's the pits (forgive the pun)and a place I wont be revisiting any time soon Treated it as a training run like you. You couldn't really do anything else given the ridiculously windy conditions.

Maybe see you at the Centurian if you're planning to be there.
